I bought new stainless from Blockley tyres - a great deal when bought with a new set of their boots.
MWS do refurbishments - but Derby plating in Abbey Street in Derby have an excellent reputation.

I entirely agree with Paulmog painted wheels look far better on a Mog and certainly is inline with the period style.

Platers would want the wheels completely stripped before they can plate them.
In addition, platers don't like polishing wheel rims because the spoke dimples tend to damage the polishing mops so they may be reluctant to take the job on.
In addition, there is also the issue of hydrogen embrittlement to consider.
My favoured platers are Niphos in Crewe, founded by two ex Bentley plating shop workers

Thank you all for your posts. I now know that chrome plating is not an option. So I wil chose for powder coating in silver-grey.
What Cat302 stated is true I now realize.
I already have an estimation for 4 rims: € 363,00 incl VAT. Is that a fair price?

If powder coating then make sure they do it properly. Prep needs to be high standard as in car paintwork spraying.
If so then it is a good finish. Will they dismantle the spokes/ rims to coat separately? They weak spots in any coating are at joints so a film of paint at these is susceptible to cracking. One way to help is to regularly clean, thoroughly dry, wax the wheels.

If you lived in the UK I would suggest contacting Paul Joynes at Redditch Shotblasting they have been in the powder coating business for many years. The company was recommended to me by John Worrall who uses their services and demands nothing but the best for any of his rebuilds and I must admit the work that was done on my wheels was faultless
