Buyers of a lot of the early M3Ws may have found that they did not like the way it drove, the bump steer, the vibration, the noise etc. But having spent ages talking themselves, and sometimes the wife, into buying the expensive toy they did not want to admit that, for them, they had made a mistake. They probably were reluctant to put it back on the market knowing that they would loose on the deal and kept trying to convince themselves that they would take it out again when they felt in the mood.
Just a thought. I would certainly agree with your thinking on the above being one of the many variables in the purchase and retention of rarely if ever used vehicles Peter. I met an American chap who bought a McLaren F1 and who had registered and garaged it in a different state as he did not want to let his family know he had purchased it..! Related to that, it seems Morgan`s are not the only specialist cars to display digital dilemmas ...

Depending on when that fellow bought the McLaren (and what he paid) the "hidden" F1 could have been a great, if accidental, investment. That rarely happens to me. I usually buy high and sell low. The few times I have bought well I usually sell too soon. I have learned to just bite the bullet and get rid of purchases I don't love. Better to buy low, and then sell even lower, but with a lesser depreciation hit than on something bought brand new. For that reason I am looking for one of the owners of these newer, low mileage Three Wheelers to say "I'm done. Sell it." I can be patient as I have other toys and the right M3W will find me someday...I hope.

Already on it. We shall see if it hits reserve. Many M3Ws on BaT stall in the low $40s. I am not sure if a sale then gets done off-line, and if it does at what price. We shall see on Tuesday.

If you have not found it already you may find the auction history graph very interesting. https://bringatrailer.com/morgan/3-wheeler/Usual rules apply in that you need to consider the characteristics of each car as you will get some outliers in the trade history i.e the 2017, 4K M3W sold August 20,2019 for US$ 48,250 was a well sorted, cracking looker with all the fruit plus a custom made trailer. You are on the right track as to "reserve" Of the 21 auctions so far, 7 did not meet reserve. If you are the best bid below reserve, BaT will put you in contact with the vendor and a chance to do an off market trade as most sellers of these cars prefer to take a financial mauling in private. I can see you have had a bid so good luck.....

So BaT doesn't charge 5% to the high bidder even if that high bidder ends up buying the vehicle? Huh. BaT really seems to be a great company. I am impressed. I assume they would have a hard time collecting if they tried, but it seems it isn't all about the Benjamins. Yes, I saw the $48k M3W with trailer, but I also saw the black 2017 sell for $38k in September. Not sure what the trailer added to the first one and not sure why the 2017 went for $38 other than it was pretty basic but it didn't seem beat or anything. All I can figure is that Morgan Three Wheelers are such a niche market that such variations are to be expected. It keeps things exciting.

A niche market at the end of the season with the potential of a new model soon to come - good chance for a bargain.... Go get'em

Here in Virginia we pay personal property tax in both the city and county for our vehicles. This year the tax on our plus 8 jumped way up. My wife asked at the clerks office. Apparently they base it upon a current highest sale and last year a plus 8 sold for a premium. Hopefully next time there will be a plus 8 that goes for a sucky price
