It's not easy to see (or photograph) but I've just crawled under the dash to confirm what is engraved on my 1980's car heater control - and it says PUSH FOR HEATING. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2019/11/01/heater-control.jpg) Slightly surprised at that as I was sure the heater works when the knob is pulled out. So no help there, sorry!

On my 1980 +8 it's Push for ON, Pull for OFF. Engraving has long since disappeared. Needed to fit a replacement ignition barrel a few years ago and that then fouled the operation of the Pull/Push cable so had to move it.

I wonder when MMC stopped fitting the heater valve on the 4/4?
Certainly haven't got one on mine.

You lads down South must be getting soft a few miles in your Mog and the heat from the engine warms your legs . A good tip is a three zip ton cover stops some of the heat getting out or some of the rain getting in as much . Try up the Frozen North when the wind blows over from Russia, that is cold . Hence I purchased some German tank overalls with linings .

I'm going to add a valve so I can turn it off in hot weather as a bit of the hot air always finds it's way past the flap even in the off position.
I've been through a couple of these valves, and found that they all tend to leak hot water (through the valve), leading to the heater being permanently on. Please see this topic, where I fit an electrically operated ball valve, that blissfully is leak free, and was good for the summer. I'd recommend it over the originally fitted cable operated valves.

I know its been a wile but I finally managed to get some time on a relatively dry day to try out my newly working heater.
I can confirm that the under dash knob is Push for ON. And now the fan blower works the footwell is particularly toasty. There is no control to alternate between footwell and screen demist, if I want hot air on the windscreen I have to close all four foot well vents.
Magic!

That's a neat solution. Can you use a standard 15mm copper pipe with these to connect into the heater circuit pipes?

You probably could. I just clamped the heater hose onto a short length of 15mm copper fixed to the ball valve. Works a treat!
