Kip my Bengal was put down Tuesday morning. He was diagnosed with lymphoma in August and was on a lot of treatment, it was going very well and he seemed to be very healthy and happy for about 12 weeks with a weekly blood test and different drugs, but then his red blood cell count dropped and he went downhill virtually in a day, it was normally his white blood cells that went up and down until the end when the red cell count just dropped. It was quite interesting how they mix the different drugs to try trick the cancer but was costing a lot (8% of ordering a Morgan Plus 4) and also keeping me busy giving him the different tablets, keeping an eye on him so I knew where he was to catch and give the tablets or for a vet visit etc. I am very sad but I felt it was time when we went for that visit even before the Chemotherapy specialist took him for tests.

My son left work for an hour to come to the vet for a last cuddle, my wife initially was not coming saying she had a meeting but phoned up 5 minutes later asking me to get the vet to wait, I expect she was crying a lot so her boss said she should just go as she is not going to be any good there. I got a fair bit of cuddle time waiting for them and he was rather chatty and happy (I think he had some painkillers given to him by the vet) and I am sure was happy to get to say goodbye to the whole family. He was doing really well but Monday he hardly moved, in the evening he got into the bath and seemed very upset, refusing to eat etc. I got him out and put him on the end of the bed but whenever I woke up he was lying there eyes wide open looking sad and not wanting to sleep, very unlike him (and most cats) to not be asleep.

He really was a daddy's boy and would be with me as much as possible and played a bit like a dog, He was called the puppy cat. But then he also did other things dogs (and our other cats) couldn’t do like jump onto the top of the shower screen and play with the water above my head while I had a shower. He had a lot of personality compared to other animals I have known, he meowed like a cat most of the time but would bark a lot like a dog to annoy the neighbours dog, chirp at the magpies and if he got annoyed him he could put his head right back and howl like a little wolf which I thought was hilarious, luckily the neighbours also thought it rather funny and he didn’t do it that often.

Finding a replacement pet with his character is probably not possible, but I will get another cat sometime.

When someone talks about religion I have trouble understanding but if someone talks about a soul or spirit I understand, cats have big souls. Enjoy the happy memories.

Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.

Sad to hear your story pets are unreplaceable, our lurcher
is failing daily with dementia this may be his last weekend. Hate having the power of life or death over another creature.

Absolutely.

So sorry to hear of your loss Chris. They leave huge great paw prints all over our hearts, don't they?

The greatest act of love we can perform for our furry pals is to help them cross the rainbow bridge when their time has come.

Really sorry to hear of your loss Chris, such a character and a wonderful looking cat.

We had a rabbit called George (a rescue jobby) and we gave him a home and our hearts for 9 years but he gave us so much more. We lost him 3 years ago and still can't bring ourselves to get another he was one in a lifetime for us after many previous one's. He's ok in a flower bed outside our bedroom window now where the plants sadly no longer get eaten.

Cats can be rather special, can't they. I am sure you will always miss him.

I can quite sympathise as there have been 3 memorable cats in my life. The last died of a heart attack at 14 years old. When he had the attack we did not realise it and did not understand his yowl of pain and the fact that he hid under the bed. We coaxed him out and gave him a cuddle and stroked him and he calmed down, went and ate mouthful and then strangely curled up in the puppy's basket with a soft toy. We found that he had peacefully died during the night.

We would get another cat but the Pincher, Lea, is too jealous and she goes berserk when she sees a cat. In fact we finished up with the dog living on one floor and the cat on another. It did not make for a peaceful life.

So sorry to hear that Chris, it sounds like Kip had a great life and you were there at the end - upsetting, but part of Kip's life that you got to share.

I always regret that my Rasher (14) went off to die on his own. In fact, he had tried to curl up at the back of the garage as I left for work one morning at 6am and I shooed him out into the garden. We never saw him again.
