You're missing the Lotus ethos John. The passenger seat is fixed to the floor pan for example - weight saving. Backrests arent adjustable for the same reason. Glovebox hasnt a lid for the same reason. The hood supports are carbon fibre springs because metal; is heavy. That approach runs through the whole car and results in something that is a sports car in real terms. Its designed to handle as well as is possible and to go as well as is possible from a standard engine. And like Morgan, they used to be cheap.

Add lightness. My car on the works weighbridge ( regularly checked) was just on 900kg full of fuel.

And yet my wife and I toured N Spain in the car for 14 days and SWMBO said it was one of the most comfortable cars she had done long distance in.

As you might guess I am a Lotus fan

I understand the Colin Chapman influence, as I said the itch is still there, but HO will only allow one toy.

A blast from my past! The Toyota engined Elise was fabulous and totally reliable, but while gravity would help me get in, getting out was another matter especially with the hardtop in place. I ended up trading it in against a Subaru BRZ, another car with superb handling but it suffered from a woeful torque curve.

If I have to decide which fun car I can keep as the only one it is the 4/4, but the Elise has her own raison d'être.
The attraction of the 4/4 and other Morgans is to merge with the environment and the Morgan itself in a mechanical frenzy, to put it that way.
All vibrations and shocks are part of the liveliness of this one organism. I wouldn't want to miss a single beat.

The attraction of the Elise is that she dissolves as a material object. Then one is very grateful for any part that is not there. I myself become the Elise and glide through the curves without physical inertia

White Elises are quite rare but here are two in the same post! Love the photo, Heinz - where was the location?

Lovely the Italian lakes are superb for soft top driving. I love Como & Iseo.

Yes, John, I agree with you. This trip was with my son. A year before that picture was taken, I was at Lake Iseo with my wife and the 4/4. We walked on Christo's orange pontoons.

The wife & I would like to go back maybe via Bavaria to enjoy the Romantische Strasse & visit Holzkirchen where we lived then via the lakes & back via the smaller passes around the Brenner pass and through the Sud Tirol. Maybe in 2021.

I happen to know the little village Holzkirchen because one of my customers, Sandoz Hexal, is based there. If you are making your trip you are welcome to stop by in Cologne if it is on your way. We can PM in 2021.
