Arwyn, you're right, some of the MTW racers had a ticking-off for not taping through the numbers as they left a circuit last year

It's an MSA Blue Book compliance rule, it's always been perfectly legal to have numbers on your car on the road.

Stringers Best Mate

I beg to differ, I was involved in running a MSA sanctioned event on the public highway (the 2016 Rali Bryniau ), during our liaison meeting with North Wales Police this very issue came up and we were told that North Wales Police would not hesitate to prosecute drivers displaying racing numbers/rally plates after the event.

And what would the offence have been?

Section 12 Road Traffic Act 1988, motor racing and speed trials on public highways.

Summary trial, fine and 3-11 points on your licence!

Surely that’s only if your car is registered as a competition car with the MSA when it was stopped on a public road

I believe the MSUK (or 'the artist formerly known as the MSA') have recently dropped the requirement for removal of numbers after events (though I guess an individual club who feared 'bad press' could still include it in the event instructions)

It's nonsense. How do these people get away with it?
