Environmental factors most probably also contributed.to the flaking and bubbling. While seeming trivial to some,
blatant paint over-spray (on the hood tape especially) would have a tendency to put some potential buyers off.
It certainly isn't a 4/4 I would run away from though! thumbs

Best of luck, hope it works out well for you.... cheers

One normally does a repaint yourself because its cheaper than a professional job. It doesn't mean that it will be done badly though. Just a higher probability of paint failure. I did a full bare metal respray of my MGB three or four years ago (partly budget and partly interest). First time for a full respray but it did take 18 months and I learned a lot. The paint has lasted well and no microblistering. It has survived a couple of really hot summers (yes I know it's the UK!) with no ill effect. It's not concourse and I spent a great deal of time on the compounding. Cellulose is quite forgiving. I don't expect to have to do a full respray on this (although I am sure it would benefit) and am happy to do local paint repairs. Probably professionally but will take advise from a local bodyshop. The problem is getting the correct shade of paint. A bodyshop will have the right equipment to match colours.
However I'm getting ahead of myself. brownbaker was good enough to view the car for me (much thanks!) and hopefully the viewing will be successful. If it is then there will be loads more questions put to the forum.

I am glad you finally bought it, I was preparing to travel down from Yorkshire to buy it when I saw your post on here.
The report from brownbaker confirmed my opinion that it would be worth the trip, however I was going down on the Monday after his weekend report which would have put me on site before you and then I felt guilty that I would be stealing it from under you ( getting soft in my old age) so I went for my second choice and after a trip to Cranfield which was a lot shorter journey came away with my new toy a plus 4.
Please keep in touch how it all goes with yours.

I'm not too sure if you would have been lucky as the guys at Williams said I was next on the list. I had spoken to them Saturday afternoon but they were waiting for a reply from another punter which did not come until Monday morning when they phoned me offering first refusal. I then arranged to see the car on Wednesday. Of course if you had turned up unannounced on Monday and made an offer I'm not sure what they would have done! But thanks for the thinking behind your actions. A gentleman to the last! I pick the car up on the 25th. Have you got yours yet? Cranfield is certainly closer to you than Bristol (and to me for that matter).
