odd that Stephen would have them and I do not as our M3W's are roughly the same time period

They can tell you what they like. Look at their June 2017 Engineering Bulletin covering the EU4 changes. OK we all know that MMC is quite peculiar about their own products… I haven't read their June 2017 Engineering Bulletin  But does really a hub cap, the opposite side of the wheel, protect the pedestrian from being hit by the brake disc? Don't buy it. Sorry…

They can tell you what they like. Look at their June 2017 Engineering Bulletin covering the EU4 changes. The brake disc protectors are a semi circular tubular bar inboard of the wheel fitted inside and infront of the brake disc to protect pedestrians see picture below. Just on the road for a couple of weeks. And it's Euro4. And it has NOT those tubular bars!!! odd that Stephen would have them and I do not as our M3W's are roughly the same time period Mine were not attached when the car was delivered but were loose in the boot. Maybe you dealer has them somewhere?

When they first appeared the story was that it was because of the projection of the octagonal spinner nuts beyond the wheels and mudguards they were required to be fitted at the factory to give a more friendly radius when kneecapping pedestrians. The level of driving skill required to just clip a pedestrian with top of the spinner is presumably quite high. There was nothing in the regulations that said that they had to stay fitted once the car had been supplied to the customer.

A Drive By Knee Capping, how diabolical. I would think that the exposed engine and pipes would be more of a hazard. Regulators love to justify their jobs.
