On a similar theme I try to avoid, when shopping brands , straying from what made the brand famous.......

Ray-ban...Sunglasses
Ben Sherman...Shirts
Timberland...Boots
ETC

All these "brands" have optimised the brand by branching into other areas but never doing the product as well as their main lines or indeed better than someone else.

In the car world this is shown by Porsche ..sledges or even Aston Martin golf balls.

If you do what you do well and keep doing it better than anyone else, then thats the way I like it.

I try to buy Australian when possible.
It is very difficult to say and do at least.
Most "stuff" , emanates from the shores of the peoples republic of China. Almost everything that I am wearing at this very moment is made in Bloody china and I hate it.
I try to buy from Germany and the USA but there is not much available to us poor Aussies.
Watches are all Chinese, cars now hail from china in the name of "great wall" heaven forbid if I want a spare part in 10 year time. maybe by then the "great wall " will have fallen down like Humpty Dumpty?
The next great push will come from India with the same urgency and panash that happened when China came of age.
Heaven help us is all I can say.
The call centres are a disaster, with supposedly fluent Indians answering the phone, in an accent that no one can under stand.
Now I'm getting very fed up with the whole way the world is moving and can only say Ta from me and Ta ta from her..... exting

I think we're quite lucky with clothes. Even on a budget, thanks to the wonders of TK Maxx you can buy exclusively from EU-made products. No sweatshops involved.

Thankfully we have brands like John Smedley, which not only is better value than other bigger names, but nicer and far more reasonably priced.

Cicerone: what are you talking about?

you lost me in the lower basement of Grace bros..

Australia does not really have named brands, just cheap stuff in the super stores.
Its a case of what is available , is what you get.
Only in the city's does one have the opportunity of buying something more exclusive and most just go for the cheapest.
that's a fact, poverty breads contempt and reality get the goods, scratch the surface and you uncover poverty at the extreme, The Smith family, Vincent de Paul, and other's fill the gap..
I live outside a large county town and every night, possibly over 50 youngsters sleep rough in the cold. They dont know about trendy cloths but know rejection first hand.
The world is not an equal place but clothes do maketh the man....
to some degree..

Cicerone; this is just my rantings and not directed at you, feel fee to vent your rantings back and keep this forum on an even keel laugh2

Sorry, I'm a bit of a clothes hound - or was. We're just lucky in that we have a broad selection and clothes are on the whole pretty reasonable, even for 'luxury' items.

I went to Russia last year and strangely clothes cost an absolute fortune. Even more oddly almost everything is imported from China. I have never gone home feeling so fortunate for what I have.
