The threads look good but the knurling needs a bit more practice. Are you using a single push in, a double push in or a caliper type tool? Either way I think you need to use a bit less spindle speed and go in with a lot more pressure at the start of the knurl. I always start the knurl with only half of the knurl wheel width in contact to get more "bite".
Practice will make perfect.

Just to keep things in perspective, I am now hitting some 1991 Bruichladdich which is an extremely fine cutting fluid....

I have made thumb screws a bit differently. My ability to knurl or turn a decent thread is nonexistent so I buy knurled knobs and bore a hole through the centers d then tap the hole for whatever bolt size needed and the use a red Thread locker to hold it in place. It saves a lot of time.

The learning curve has continued.
There is now a full set of brass thumbscrews holding the boot liner in place and some of them are fairly similar to each other;


and there is a new 0-ring oil seal arrangement in the tank filler cap


To be honest, while the oil seal may well stop the seapage that always seems to happen unless the cap is done up seriously tight with a fairly fresh Viton gasket and PTFE tape on the threads it might not for a couple of reasons; the filler on the tank is out of round and the filler cap is drilled off centre for the dip stick. The next version might not have the aluminium plug with the o-rings threaded on to the dip stick to allow it to float slightly so that it can self centre but might have to make it slightly longer to make sure it aligns reasonably.

Things have now come to a halt for the moment as I'm away offshore again this afternoon. Might be a good thing since I now have a home made oil seal, I need to do my bit to get more oil out of the ground!

A dipstick, I feel cheated, mine doesn’t have such a thing, just a damn difficult cap to remove so one can peer into the tank and check oil level. I bought a small strap wrench to remove the darn cap every time I feel the urge to look in there. It makes me want a sight glass...

I don't know if this will save you any effort or money, but here in the US we use these press-on plastic knobs a LOT. They just snap over the head of the appropriate sized Allen bolt.

I haven't seen those press on knobs before. They look seriously useful. I shall have a look to see if there is an accessible source this side of the pond. We could do with a Mcmaster Carr over here too.
