Comps is a little village in the middle of nowhere and for a dozen years or so was without a fuel station. The village, which has a small hotel/restaurant and four or five cafés, is quiet at this time of year but a lot of people pass by in summer, en route to the spectacular Gorges du Verdon or looney bikers, or people arriving in Provence via la Route Napoleon. The local maire, with help from the département and the State, decided that a fuel station was essential for locals as well as tourists. It was a nice touch to commission an artist to brighten up an undistinguished building.

I love the artwork. By coincidence, this morning I was re-reading "An Omelette and three glasses of wine" which is a collection of Citroen themed magazine articles compiled by the late Andrew Brodie with writing from the late Phil Llewellin and some magnificent photography from Martyn Goddard. It is a must read for anyone with respect for the products of Citroen pre- Peugeot ownership.

There's a line of 5 garages in Ambleteuse that, although the garages themselves are looking a bit tired, have a very nice set of art deco tiles on them.
