Same here. smile
But most of them now are club / organisation periodicals.

MotorPunk, you have my sympathies, welcome to the brave new world. I admit that had to look up "advertorial" though had a guess at it`s possible meaning.. I am afraid my forum I.D. hints that I am just another of those whose hard won skills were in varying degrees declared redundant, though fortunately for me such was the variety of my interests that I was able to remain useful to some degree in employment up to retirement age. As has been wisely said on here learning new skills, going with the flow would seem to be the path of least resistance.... I spent an inordinate amount of time pointing out many flaws and increased risks in that which appeared to be blind adoption, if not, at least blinkered by cost cutting, of risk management techniques..... How far is too far in terms of acceptance of risk management cost reduction, perhaps when aircraft start falling out of the sky, it appears things have got out of hand or political systems seem to be on the verge of breakdown.... Fake news abounds, more is the pity.

Sorry got of track..again... I bought magazines every month from 1964, right up till about Y2k and sporadically thereafter up till circa 6 years ago when I think I bought my last, only recently have I given away magazines of al types yachting, motorcycling and car mags stored for many years...I suspect there may be many like me, so I guess you are kinda up against it MotorPunk as there is so much available on the web that is indeed free on the face of it, but then there is ever a price is there not.....?

Yes there are a number of issues with on-line. It could be anyone and building up a trust of the sites/teams logic, bias and opinion needs to be done with caution. The older print magazines have a strong reputation built on a solid economic model which displayed fairness in most cases. When they go online you can still see most of them are running a bit thinner on staff in this modern world (sharing backroom staff?) but solid in their opinion and trustworthy.

The "influencer" based rot on the web that is being peddled as opinion but mostly driven by consumption of freebies needs to have a public health warning on it. A bit like the CERT-15 signs that come up on the front of movies. There should be a "this muppet was given a freebie and has been proven to say anything to get more" on the front. I actually use an advert blocker so most of the garbage gets removed. Where a site detects this and asks me to remove I usually like them as it means they are honest and trying to be fair to their advertisers so I tend to trust them more and pause the ad-blocker. Where I see adverts that are clearly click-bait I tend to just snap read the bit I want and close the page. I have programmed one of the F keys on the keyboard to close the tab to save time! There is a direct relationship between quality of advertising and quality of content in my experience.

I still get Autocarp weekly and enjoy it as a print magazine and normally buy Car, Evo or something with an interesting article on the front cover once a month. I do however read and watch a ton on line when time permits (usually when on dead-as-dish audio/video conferences right now). I do think that the ability to watch some good videos full screen actually does go beyond the print format. I do however draw the line at anything by Schmeeeee150 who makes me want to throw something at the monitor.

Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.

Printed mags are ideal for the smallest room. I judge the quality of the reading by the pains in my thighs when I exit wink

MotorPunk was great but periodicals must be challenging business model. The "club/service + periodical" model seems to work for MSCC, and even online for MTWC. Not sure how that translates to Motorpunk or others...

For example:
Anyone ever see "Nuts about Motoring"? https://www.independent.co.uk/news/...driving-seat-for-first-time-1142768.html
Sunday looked quite nice? https://www.sundaymotoringclub.com/

I get Car, Octane and Magneto on subscription. A bit on the glossy 'life style' side but I do read almost everything in them.

I get Miscellany with my MSCC membership. I'm only a member of MSCC thanks to 40 years of Morgan ownership but otherwise I wouldn't bother. I guess it's changed with the changing demographic of Morgan owners but I don't read it beyond a glance (when did we last get a really informed decent set of technical articles?) and recycle it almost immediately.

I have scaled down my magazine obsession since starting this thread. In addition to Miscellany of course, I get only Octane and Road Rat which is a quarterly. Octane is still very much the bible of Goodwood man, but excellent nonetheless. Road Rat is quite pretentious, but gorgeously produced with quite eclectic and left of field articles.
