Steve I expect the airports will close except for emergency freight etc. Most airlines are now not flying or have nowhere to fly to.

I see yesterday that Sellafield has sent many of its staff home due to a member of staff having the virus. They are starting to shut down most of the operations there for safety reasons.
I know it’s not a generating facility but it does beg the question about the nuclear power stations and what happens if staffing levels drop to the extent that safety is compromised and they have to shut down. Tim’s our expert on here...it would be interesting to hear his views on maintaining power supplies.

With car manufacturers etc closing down production for example, perhaps the demands are dropping.

Now I'm out of the industry I wouldn't get anything other than the official line from the generators, ie "Everything's fine and we'll make sure the power stays on".

I don't believe nuclear safety would be at all compromised since so many of the systems are automated, can be remotely managed and rely on relatively low staffing levels anyway. Since most of the nukes share the same technology there would be plenty of scope for swapping people around and EDF runs a central management facility with a basement-level command centre that is able to be live connected to all the stations for managing issues, so they are extremely well-equipped to handle the nuclear side of things.

More vulnerable are the transmission and distribution networks, maintenance and repair of which require quite large numbers of workers. These I suspect would be harder hit by staff shortages possibly?

Excellent John it works for me too, the Green Godess and Mr Motivator never quite cut it for me.

Take care up there.

Ha ha - social stereo typing could be applied here but I am not that daft..

On the way into our office this morning (three of us all distant and acting as sole contact in office for each group) I visited Aldi at 8am - nice well mannered queue all standing a safe distance apart. Doors opened and they went in like bandits. The shelves were quite well stocked by current standards inc fresh veg etc. Dried goods and tins also available. The bad news is that the crowd went feral and started to act like a bunch of hamsters in the cage.

Waitrose at lunchtime (a few things you can find there I like) was calm and very polite with people respecting each other in the isles and letting people pass carefully. The lady trying to stock the toilet roll shelf had given in placing it on the shelf and was handing them out in pairs to orderly queue that had formed.

People - the final frontier.

Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.
