I would beware of putting the bleach mix on the car interior peeps, modern leathers and materials are not as colour fixed as we may think. Last year I had a friend with a tie'n'die shirt (it was for fancy dress apparently) and the shirt was washed with a light bleach and then they drove to the party. The shirt rubbing on the seat back leather for 30 miles discoloured the seat badly and the dealer/manufacturer would not replace under warranty as the shirt was mentioned.

Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.

Yes, avoid the leather. But a single wipe followed by a normal wipe to remove excess should be ok for hard surfaces. You could try a small test area out of sight to be sure.

Thanks for the warnings guys, I shall tread lightly as I go.

It is a 2016 1.2 TSi 105 PS and lacks torque until the turbo cuts in so is often a bit sluggish coming out of hairpins in second gear, particularly if it has a load on. If it can be kept in the effective turbo band it gets along quite nicely.

Yes they handle quite well imho and we always call Heathers car the shopping trolley - I'm still awaiting my £1 deposit back from the first one though laugh2

We have always had at least one VW on the fleet and 3 at one time when the girls were at Uni, they are well built unpretentious cars that do what they say on the tin, unless of course they are diesel grin2

We had a sequence of the earlier 16V 1.4 normally aspirated 100 bhp Polos and they were great fun too and very akin the first Golf GTI's before they got too lardy for my taste so I imagine you and John V6 have fun with your TSI's.

For the interior I think I would use a wipe over with alcohol followed by a wipe over with a normal car interior cleaner and, if leather, something specifically for leather. The exterior a simple wipe over with alcohol would be fine. Then leave the car open to air till any remaining odour has evaporated.

Scotch or gin would probably be fine but may cause problems if you get pulled up for a police check, vodka has less odour so you would probably get away with it but pure cleaning alcohol is probably best. smile

The vodka is sounding favourite.

No ethanol based drink is strong enough to kill the virus. All the alcohol based wipes or gels need to be 80% or more.
Isopropyl alcohol (Rubbing Alcohol) or industrial methylated spirit (blue meths in the UK) will kill the virus in less than a second as the cell wall is destroyed.

On Radio Leeds this morning, they interviewed a virologist who answered listeners questions.

One question was “should we be wiping down door handles etc with bleach or Dettol type products.”

Her answer was very interesting and is information that should I think have been made widely public from the start.

The virus has a lipid based outer coating; so to kill the virus effectively you need to destroy the lipid coating and then the virus is dead.

Lipid is of course fat - so any soap based product is the most effective, which is why the information has always been “wash your hands with soap and water”*

She stated that you can use any detergent that you would use to destroy grease on plates etc, so washing up liquid etc is fine.

Re the bleach, this is effective but not good for the hands so not recommended for things like door handles which you would touch. You’d need to wipe the bleach off to avoid damaging your hands.

The excerpt is on BBC sounds app, Richard Stead Breakfast Show BBC Leeds and this comment was made somewhere between 9.50 and 10.00 today (26/3) if you’re interested.

* I know this has been widely mentioned but I never understood why - in my mind, something like a disinfectant would have been more efficient. Had they said the virus has a fatty coating so you need to destroy the fatty layer the whole washing with soap thing would have made more sense. Cynically I’d thought it more of a sop to stop public panicking and make everyone comfortable that they were “doing their bit” - rather like they did in the 70s public information handouts where they recommended hiding under the table with a white sheet in the event of nuclear attack, or brace position if the plane is going to crash..

Well the car was delivered this afternoon on the flat bed by Lancaster VW and I can thoroughly recommend them as a dealer and their thoroughness in protecting their customers.

Anything that could be wrapped was wrapped in cling film and the delivery driver wiped everything down before he completed the handover.

One of the best car buying experiences ever and all online so top marks to Molly Morgan the sales executive that handled everything from initial enquiry to delivery in 5 days under trying circumstances.

Oh and it is an absolute joy to drive with a huge injection of fun, a lot smoother in power delivery and a lot more of it, the 236 torque is impressive and the suspension and handling are much more refined over the last GTI at 10Kgs less and 50bhp more it's all good news, she is chuffed to bits with it as am I and Silk Blue is a cracking colour for this 3 door, well done VW. We've always had at least one on the fleet for 25 years now and like Morgan it's once bitten..
