I just had a look at Flight Radar 24 and I am amazed at the number of trans-Atlantic flights which are headed for the U.S. from European departure points on a daily basis. I must be missing something regarding travel and entry restrictions!

No, Graham. Flight radar identifies cargo aircraft separately. Just to the west of Ireland at the moment is UA Fight 2811, a Boeing 777 depated Amsterdam and en-route to Chicago, just as one example. Even more strange is an inbound Virgin 787 Dreamliner just to the NW of Ireland tavelling from Los Angeles to Heathrow, both cities supposedly in lockdown. It isn't just today. The same pattern has been in place all week.

I would hope it is repatriation flights but don't hold my hopes high! (or for the cabin crew)

I don’t know if it’s just press hype but there are suppose to be 100,000 passengers a day coming through UK airports, some from China and Iran 😳. Even if it is hype, the flight radar shows most planes clustered over the UK. Just what planet are we on?

Many of the flights over the UK are just passing over, from somewhere in Europe to somewhere in the Americas. But I agree, the number of flights doesn't really gell with the supposed shutdown across Europe, South Asia and North America.
