I do think it would be more normal to have a filter before the injectors, with a separate regulator, but this setup is not altogether uncommon on cheaper cars and bikes.

Filtering the the fuel coming out of the tank would be my first concern since but the fuel pump is at the mercy of whatever you pumped into the tank.
I ground tanks are a mystery until the government forces an inspection. All sorts of crud reside in those tanks and if you pump fuel while or soon after a fuel delivery then crud will be in your tank.

I spoke to Emil at Morgancustoms and he ended up putting a fuel regulator, high flow filter and new fuel hoses on his Morgan so I think I am going to go visit him and do the same. Emil was rebuilding his motor over the winter and opted to fix this as well. Hard to believe that the filter for Morgan serves as the fuel regulator and there is no filter before the injectors.
Seems like a more elegant solution to have a fuel regulator and a filter before the injectors and should help the engine run better longer term. I will keep you all posted how this all works. Shame I just bought a new filter the other day.
Any idea what the ideal operating pressure is for the installed injectors?

I ran through the pump replacement over the weekend and am pleased to report that all went to plan. It seems that my convoluted hoses were actually the same size, so the (very good I must say) instructions needed a little interpretation at that point, but it was soon pretty obvious quite which hose needed removed. I like the sound of the beefy new pump and after 4 or 5 primes the air bubbling noises stopped and the car started first time. Only managed a 20 minute or so drive (it was an essential jouirney, after all...) but all drove just the same as it did before. Hopefully this staves off any future issues, although my 7 year old and 16,000 mile original pump showed no signs of problem before now. I will probably carry it with me though, just in case (although I don't relish the job of replacing that at the roadside....)

Really the only thing the M3W might need is a filter in front of the injectors. Several thousand of these machines are running around with only the sock type filter in the tank and the number of people reporting injector issues are next to nil. Fuel pumps...that's another story.
The current setup does provide a high capacity filter with pressure regulation, so not sure the gain from changing that out. The filter flow capacity is sized for a much larger engine than the M3W so flow capacity shouldn't be an issue.
Regulators can be installed before or after injectors, but are more typically installed after in a return type system. Regulators before the injectors are typical of returnless systems (which is probably a bad idea on a large air cooled motor which blocks airflow to the fuel lines). I believe MMC prototypes used a returnless system before changing to the current return type setup.

Timely comment Phil as I'm just doing a 2nd edition of the Walbro retrofit instructions as we speak. Two equally sized hoses is a new one on me! What year is your car? Do you happen to have a photo of the pump assembly showing the two identical convoluted hoses? I have some feedback from Chocadoodledoo and Chris99 to add but does anyone else have any suggestions for any other improvements to the document?

Agree makes sense to put the regulator after the injectors and putting a filter in line before the injectors. Personally I am not a fan of using the filter as a fuel regulator and rather buy a regulator to regulate the pressure so it can be dialed in for the injectors. Like some things on the Morgan it is good enough but sometimes there are things I would prefer to upgrade.

The plastic clips to release the bucket are quite a fiddle, I found if you released one you could ease the bucket enough to insert a matchstick in the gap and then undo the others. Before I did this I would undo one move to the next one and the first would close again.

Have you read it?
