Post Photobucket reboot from May 2011

Since I started building up a stock of black leather offcuts, I've been looking at what else can be done. The sun visors on my car are not MMC, but I do like them. However the fixings are exposed. On the side facing the occupants, are four crosshead screw heads, and all that was needed was some screw caps secured with double sided tape. In this photo, the dust revealed by the flash is astonishing................

On the other side, it looks like this:

A simple small strip of neoprene, with a single hole punched through for location, then with a small leather offcut glued on top, with a gentle curve, and it looks like this:

Next I looked at the door checks. These are Librands and are excellent. But I wanted to conceal the fixing brackets behind a leather face. Again. a small piece of neoprene punched to locate over the fixings. Then using spray adhesive the leather can be curved round the edges. All fixed with double sided tape. This photo as standard.

Neoprene & Leather pieces:

Fixed together:

Fitted:

Door bracket covered:

Re-assembled:

And a shot of the other side completed.

I've continued along the same lines with a bit more titivation - gratuitous alterations just because I have the time and the leather offcuts.
First the sidescreen screws - they look like this.

It doesn't take much effort to make them look like this........

How? - drawing pins sprayed aluminium & lacquered, with the point cut off and fixed with double sided tape.

Then I thought about the sidescreen fixings with those external philips screwheads. So I tried the drawing pin solution, but used a dab of contact adhesive on these to keep them flat. Didn't really like the result.....

So - I painted a few satin black. Much better.

On the inside I've stamped out some leather circles and stick over the exposed screw heads on the door trims. It doesn't show up well in photos, but looks OK. Next I removed the sidescreen covers and added leather covers over the aluminium brackets as seen here:

And here:

Post Photobucket reboot from May 2011

Moving on - I turned my attention to the door locks.
There are three small additions in this shot. Behind the handle, vertical strip inboard of the handle and a small piece wrapped around the exposed metal on the handle. All leather offcuts held with double sided tape.

This shot is 'before'

And after: Two small pieces inserted above and below the mechanism.

Then I looked at the vertical face of the door edge between the lock and door skin:

Paper pattern:

3mm std density neoprene on the left, leather offcut on the right, face down.

Glued together before wrapping over and trial fitting.

This is how it looks fitted.

That's all for now. thumbs
