I've now had the enhancement flash carried out on the ECU at the service department in Malvern, having removed the ECU myself. I've just put it back in, carefully reattaching all the multipin plugs as they all were...

BUT the starter won't turn the engine over, no click or anything. All the normal dash lights come on, the fuel pump sounds as normal - it's just the starter doesn't do anything.

I've checked every fuse I can find (including the big one by the battery) and they are all ok. Anyone got any ideas what I should look at next, please?

Is your immobiliser light going out?

If it still flashes, wipe the key fob over the lock barrel, and the light should extinguish.

Then you get 30 seconds to insert the key and start up

Thanks for your reply, Dave. Yes it does go out. It's always been reliable that way and I've just tested it a few more times - as soon as the key is inserted the light stops blinking.

I would ring the factory since they just did the flash and see what they say

I did just that earlier this afternoon, was put through to one of the technicians who suggested I check the connections on the 3 relays in the fuse/electrics box under the bonnet - which I've now done and still no joy. They said they carry out and test the flash on another car, so it can't be the ECU/reflash that is to blame. They also said not to worry and that it'll get sorted somehow.

I'll get back onto them again in the morning... (I can't help remembering your comment about opening the box, seeing a load of wires and not wanting to get involved with removing the ECU yourself!)

It's possible you disturbed a connection in the box Keith. The starter relay is the logical place to look.....if you have a multimeter, check it's getting 12v with the ignition on.

I have a meter. Forgive my ignorance but where is the starter relay, please? - the 3 in the fusebox are labelled "fuel system, engine immobiliser, wiper system"

Uh oh! I'm not home so I can't look, but there's usually an ignition/starter relay.

Try the immobiliser relay.

Further update - I spoke to MMC Service tech again this morning a couple of times and carried out a couple of tests/investigations that they suggested. But now the ECU will need to go back to Malvern for further investigation. What a pain!

So sorry that's happened Keith. As you know, I looked in the box, and didn't fancy the challenge of removal since it's so tight in there. Hopefully they will resolve this quickly.
