Thanks for all your suggestions folks , much appreciated. I had wrongly assumed that my tatty box of ring terminals from Fleabay were the only ones available. I have now learnt otherwise. As you have suggested I will now change the ring connectors to a larger version and add a 15amp inline fuse.

I note that on two of my 3 chargers there is an inline fuse, I will add a fuse to the third.

When I got my car I found a little cable with a plug at the end with three LED’s, red, amber and green, I found out this was for plugging a Ctek charger into and is permanently connected to the battery (with fuse) The lights flash to indicate the condition of the battery but in practice it tends to go red if the car isn’t used for a couple of day but there is plenty juice in the battery even if left for a month or so.
It’s a Ctek part so probably still available and makes it very easy to plug in the charger when I want.

Like you I used one of the Ctek comfort cables and fed it out to the nearside rear bumper bracket where I clamped the socket using a bracket that I made from Delrin. I find the hook up so simple and the socket has a rubber blanking plug to protect it when not in use

Why not call Ctek and ask them for a solution.

As it happens I always use the cigarette lighter plug on Mog with no problems but I will use the crocodile clips to condition our Freelander's battery before we fire it up again.

Exactly the same, (ok,it’s the wife’s Evoque but very similar!)

I have 3 Cteks. IIRC each one came with a lead with crocodile clips, and another ‘cigarette’ lighter plug.
All are permanently connect to the cars. I was told to just leave them on ‘frost setting’, no problems so far...

It's not that good for the forgetful, I have driven off with it still hooked up fortunately with no harm. But you have given me an idea, if put a longer lead on the Ctek I can do away with the alternator
