It’s kind of weird to think that everyday cars that we bought new likel my 1975 Mini are now called classics and worth much more that we bought them new for. I worked with a guy who a couple of years ago told me his dad had a vintage car, what is it I asked, a 1976 Holden he replied, so then we argued over something so new being called vintage.
But to an 18 year old today buying a 1975 Mini, is like me buying a 1930’s car when I was the same age, so on reflection I see his point.
Also weird to think about is that my 1934 Triumph which was 50 years old when I bought it, will be 100 years old in 14 years.
Where does the time ago.

Jens .....had never thought of the 2cv as a classic but I suppose it would fit by age and quirkiness .... will have to add my Dyane to my list .... a 2cv in a posh frock .... great car ....wife and I drove it down from Yorkshire to Morocco...Marrakech, over the Atlas mountains and out into the Sahara and home .. never missed a beat

I have to admit to a soft spot for 2cv’s. Never driven one but always loved the style

I had an original Audi Coupe in the 80s in Bavaria. I guess that is a classic now but not then.

If your talking weird ‘classics’

My road car was in bits and I had bent the rally MGBGT, and because that had broken a wrist I hadn’t got either car back together and it was 5 days before the Esso Starlight Rally (Tarmac event), the garage partsman had a Vauxhall 101 for sale as an MOT failure. I bought it for £25, put an MOT on it (just a patch on a sill and some draglink bushes) and we entered the event.

They were laughing at the start but not at the finish, there was not an undamaged panel on the car, even the roof was creased, we didn’t get a results pot but we did get the ‘Spirit of the Event’ award. Apparently for sailing through a control with total brake failure as the all round drums had overheated then the Navvy running back shouting ‘What time you got?’....

Happy days when such madness was allowed!

Doh ! I completely neglected to mention my 2CV too. I had a 1972 2CV4 when I lived down in the SW of France in the early 90s. Great little car for the fairly rustic way of life we had down there . The chassis buckled from too much driving up and down unmade roads; the local garage swapped it over for a second hand chassis for £400. It also survived an engine bay fire when a petrol line split; a passing farmer had an extinguisher in the cab of his tractor and we got the fire out before it had done too much damage.

This is our beautiful Range Rover Vogue V8 EFI. Year 1988. Totally restored. It looks like new and we love it!

Pros:
- Amazing space! It's huge inside!
- Smooth drive. The automatic transmission is really nice for a car this age. Really comfortable to drive.
- You have the best posible visibility on the road and everything that's around you.

Cons:
- OMG the consumption … but if you drive carefully, it's reasoneable
