I feel like a heretic on this thread ..... never wear a watch.





Only watch I have ever owned in my 68 years .... bought for me by my wife to celebrate me going solo in gliders ..... as far as I recall I've never worn it outside a flying day ..... just went and ferreted it out of the back of a drawer where it's languished since I stopped flying 30 years ago !

Ideal Morgan watch ....timeless, traditional, understated and does the job

Well that's a shocker ....just went in the interwebbby and saw the price of these new!! ..... nearly fell off my chair .... thing has sat dirty and unloved at the back of its drawer .... if someone had offered me 30 quid for it I'd have said 'ok, not like I ever use it' !

Hannes, your IWC is a fantastic watch and a very emotional heirloom in the family. I've just looked at the watch on the net, really very nice.

Modern movements are becoming more and more precise, not only in time accuracy but also in mechanical quality with very tight tolerances. I'm not an expert but I can observe that watches with simpler drives don't need a revision so fast. My 2002 Speedmaster was checked last year and still has a nearly like new amplitude in all positions. The same applies to the not so expensive ETA drives. The manual drive of the Speedmaster Professional is basically from the early 1940s.

But the 2004 Coaxial Broad Arrow had to go for 850€ to a revision last year. The drive is much more modern and complex but obviously much more maintenance intensive as well.

Like Image I haven't worn one since I retired early 6 six ago as you really don't need one your head does it for you with an accuracy of around a quarter hour that's plenty accurate.

My good lady bought me this a gift about 15 years ago just dragged it out the drawer for a photo, not expensive but functions superbly just like my Plus 8 , I'm not a possessions type of person and realise that others like collecting such jewellery.

That is a lovely watch! I had one of the re-issues from Silvermans but it seemed a bit too thick on my wrist so I sold it. Now I'm looking for another :-)

I love wrist watches too! I have few really good ones and would love to buy some precise models.

Some years ago, my father in-law show me a couple of watches he had in an old drawer. Both without watchband, broken glass, and one of them with the sphere quite deteriorated.
I looked at them in detail and… OMG!
One of them was an Omega Seamaster that my father in-law bought when he went to Dallas to study, in 1968. And the other one, the one with the sphere in bad conditions, was from his father (so my wife’s grand-father) and happened to be a Rolex Oyster Perpetual from the early 30’s.
We gave them to the brands’ specialists for restoration They were restored in the houses, in Switzerland. Both happened to be real pieces of art because of their characteristics and age.

So, these are the ones I have:
- Rolex Oyster Perpetual (early 30’s they say… My wife uses it as it’s really small for my large wrist).
- Breitling Antares (year 1992)
- Longines – unknown model (shall be from the 50’s-60’s as it was owned by my Spanish grandfather)
- Omega Seamaster (year 1968)



I also own other not so valuable pieces, such a modern MontBlanc Summit 1 and a “vintage” 1983 Seiko. Finally, some “common” pieces such a 1992 Swatch Chrono, a couple more of old Swatch, a Swiss Military, a sporty digital Pulsar, etc.

My wish list :
- IWC Portugieser Chronograph
- Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M Chronograph 45,5 mm
- Breitling Navitimer B01 Chronograph 46 - PROBABLY THE BEST FOR A MORGAN DRIVER

Im into watches, in fact its my job to be 'into' them but I dont think id ever tie a watch to the car. Im not really keen on cross branding watches, or having bits of something else in a watch.


I have owned some real corkers in the past but this is and always will be my fave ever watch !

DO NOT SELL THAT WATCH until getting a proper evaluation !! Is it an issued one ? I have the re-issue but would love a first gen issued example. Please post image of the back

There you go Bonesie ...... had a chat to my wife and she seems to remember it was from an Army Surplus place out of Exchange and Mart ..... was just a random silly gift and was a few pounds ..... will be keeping it as it's got sentimental value (from the golden days when I could glide silently under fluffy cumulus clouds on endless sunny afternoons.....and my wife still bought me random gifts ) ....wound it earlier and it just started up and keeping perfect time .... they make a decent watch those Swiss lads

PS ....for the non-UK members Exchange and Mart was a buy and sell publication that we swooped on weekly pre-internet ..... imagine filling your printer with cheap newspaper and printing off ebay and you pretty well have it
