I have put gaitors on the rebound springs yesterday. I used a bit of car tire innertube. Looks fine. I am hoping it will keep quite a bit of sand and water off the lower kp's. While I was doing it I was thinking of also doing the upper springs. Is that common practice? Has anyone got some tips as to what to use. I think the Inner tube would be a bit too thick and might interfere with the tire and the disks on compression. Any idea's? Cheers J

Not really necessary on the main spring. The dust shield is a close fit on the stub axle tube which keeps the dirt out. I looked at this when I did the kingpins and concluded the gains were not significant.

MrsW has just sewn up a few more pairs of Mohair rebound spring Gaiters. PM me if you would like more details. Pictures are on my kingpin/gaiter thread.

Mr W isn't paying me commission for saying this ( alas) but prior to his first batch hitting the market, I used the gaiters from Allon White's. I'm now using Dave's and much prefer them G

Very good of you to say G. The cheque isn't in the post........... I have a gaiter story which I can't share publicly - but just ask if you bump into me..............

Despite the views of the experts I was a Boy Scout ('Be Prepared' was our motto). My Upper and Lower Gaiters have been on for two years now and 3000 miles, Made from Waterproofed Nylon, Velcro and a Leather Strap. When I took them off for the recent greasing everything beneath is very clean while the outside of the gaiters are covered, FROM TOP TO BOTTOM in dryed on grit . Thats good enough for me. It takes a few minutes to fit them all and a new set will go on at the next greasing. The Upper Gaiter when first fitted. The Strap is to keep the gaiter centred when under compression The Full Gaiter Set.

Hi Frank. Where did you get your gaiters? I made them myself from the recycled waterproof lining from an old wax jacket, two BA Club Baggage Tag Straps (I'm a bit of a magpie ) and some velcro (non adhesive type as the glue messes up the sewing machine). The lower ones are based on a set I bought from DaveW and the upper ones I developed on the same wrap around principle. The Smooth Waterproof surface inside make it easy to clean off any old grease that has oozed out. If you fancy having a go I could email my drawings (send me a PM with your email address if you do)
