I have been following the site since i retired 18 months ago. Leo only posts once a fortnight, which is frustrating for me, but he needs time to actually progress the boat.
Tally Ho was originally built in Shoreham by Sea on the South coast. My tenuous link is that i stayed in Shoreham during my university days.
During this lockdown period i joined the Albert Strange Association with the intention of obtaining a set of line drawings for the Albert Strange designed Charmina.
She is a LWL 24 foot double ended yawl. A seriously pretty gentleman's yacht. I'm proposing to built it as a 1/8 scale R/C model.
should keep me out of mischief for a bit.

There is another similar web page called "Acorn to Arabella" where a couple of Americans are doing the same thing as Leo. its worth a look.

I always look on people who try to restore old boats with awe.

I mean - why? Its an incredible amount of work and expense to do what this guy is attempting and most of them fail. We have a Morcambe Bay Prawner yacht rotting quietly away in a mud berth in our club - chap who started it , took it to bits then couldnt complete it and wont admit defeat. And as a sailor who has pottered round lord only knows how many ports, I've seen lots of projects like this one all over the country. And I've sailed in a few as well.

Its a magificent obsession - thank god I havent got it..

I've watched the first 11 episodes so far. Astounding - he's almost rebuilding the whole boat on his own. I've found it hard enough work re-rigging or re-engining a 35ft cat. He's mad. Mad I tell you. These old wooden boat guys are simply not normal.

Mind you, one thing I have noticed before. The young guys with obsessions like this, whether it be old houses or boats or lifestyle - they all see to attract pretty young girls. Maybe they arent as mad after all.

But the work in this project is immense.
