I have a 2014 4/4 which has a heated front windscreen This has stopped working The garage that has checked it for me advises me that the element has failed which suggests that the only option is a new windscreen Is this a common failure? Is there any alternative to replacement? My car has only done 10,500 miles mostly in fine weather but it’s a useful accessory in bad weather Any advice welcomed Many thanks Henry Coates

My replacement lasted all of a year. Which is about the time the morgan garage said it would. Why o why when heated screens have been around for years.

If you look closely you might have accidentally cracked it

Check with Simmonds... He had some second hand ones he was selling off in past Miscellanys. Various sizes so you may be lucky.

Thanks for the advice It did fail once before and I established that the fuse had worked out which was surprisingly given the smooth and comfortable ride on my car There is no obvious or visible damage to the windscreen although I have not examined the element closely A replacement seems to be the best answer although they do seem very fragile even when fitted to Fords The elements of heated rear windows used to be printed on the surface of the glass which although vulnerable could be repaired with an electrically conductive paint It wasn’t always successful!

If you have access to an Ohms meter drop the dash, disconnect the 2 screen wires and check for continuity through the screen element. If the screen checks out check the 2 wires, one is feed the other earth then fault trace back through the switch and fuses etc.

Picking up from what Colin said, how did your garage know it was the element. Did they drop the dash or maybe remove the screen because if all they did was check it from the switch or other wiring then I don't see how they would distinguish between an element fault and a wiring fault.
Where the wires attach to the screen is very awkward to get to and is horribly bent and squashed under the screen when it is in position.
When I had my screen out a few weeks back I remember thinking that the connection was a potential failure point.
