Agree Jon, that does look naff and turns very corroded - on most cars very quickly.

I do note my new "modern" is now however, treated and is not rusting!

Interesting..... brake drums not worthy of highlighting but calipers are... hmm?

There are some very interesting brake drums are there not..? Ok so the standard Morgan issue may be less so, but I know of at least one fastidious Morgan owner who went to great lengths to ensure his rear brake drums shone through his already polished to perfection wire wheels...

I had a set of AL-FIN drums finned alloy drums with cast iron liners manufactured by by Wellworthy on my 55 TR2 which when cleaned and polished, its eemed a shame for them to be hidden behind the disc wheels.

It seems Datsun may have used a similar dimension alloy finned drum on their 240Z, on which some may have modified the PCD, in order to fit the rear of a +8...? Though that was back in the day before puddle lights were thought of the next ideal bit of bling to add to a Morgan..(-:

I think that the re-manufacture of alloy brake drums has been on the go in recent times and thus the cost and difficulty in finding such drums may have eased somewhat..?

My old +8`s rear drums are as glossy as they were when I first bought it in 2002, thus no doubting Kevin`s choice of paint technique, or perhaps down to only having covered circa 25k miles in those years...????

Some of the more up market OE brake disc manufacturers are coating them with Geomet that contains zinc

Ditto plus what parts of stub axle I could reach some time ago, although took the recent opportunity to do a better job with some more Hammerite silk black. When eventually I have to renew kingpins will strip out stub axle and do a proper job.
