For anyone who is tall and has considered adding a steering wheel spacer for some extra legroom, here's a fairly easy way to try before you buy and determine the right spacing. McMaster Carr here in the US sells M6 Male-Female Threaded Hex Standoffs that you can use to extend the steering wheel attachment by bolting the steering wheel to these, and then bolting these into the quick release fixture. I bought the 51mm ones to get a 2-inch spacing. I added oversize washers both on the back of the wheel itself and on the back of the release fixture to make it more stable. The spacer I used is this one, a "Male-Female Threaded Hex Standoff, 18-8 Stainless Steel, 13 mm Hex Size, 51 mm Long, M6 x 1.00 mm Thread Size". They are available in other lengths, and I am sure in other countries there are local suppliers. My solution is for the 4-bolt Brooklands wheel, but I expect you can do the same thing with other wheels, although double check it uses M6 bolts before you order. It is not pretty, but works well and feels rock solid. I'm waiting for Krazy Horse to re-stock the solid spacers and will switch to one of those for appearance once they can get me one. Here's the ugly but effective result, which means I can now easily rest my left leg on the floor when it is off the clutch. I dont think I would trust 4 hex spacers not to twist, definitely not 3 holes. I'd wait for a solid spacer, my dealer made up a batch 25mm & I had first one.

Plenty of 3 bolt ones Richard, 4 Bolt "Brooklands" steering wheel ones are a bit thin on the ground. I agree with TimG, I would not trust it either. It's good idea for checking dimensions work but not to use. If you are tempted to use it then the stiff nuts are not in safety and it looks like a Traven quick release, so check it is refitted correctly.

I am sorry, I would never put myself behind a steering wheel with the kind of fixture depicted. It might be that it feels rock solid here and now, but how would it be after some hours' driving - constantly exposing it to torsional forces, bump steer on an uneven road etc. And if one should have the bad luck of a crash, be thrown against the wheel or have the wheel coming against you, I believe the whole thing would collapse and make the steering wheel stem/boss a dangerous weapon. I cannot think this would pass a MOT, and for a reason. For measuring out a well made spacer - yes, but driving with it - absolutely not.
