My 1990 Plus 8 (3.9 injection) is fitted with (I think) an after market ITG foam air filter that is starting to deteriorate.Rather than replace it with a similar item, I would like to revert to the standard air cleaner which I believe is a cylinder with a trumpet intake. Can any one tell me whether this is a standard Morgan part or a Rover part please. I have looked on line for part numbers without success, there are one or two old Range Rover filters on ebay but I'm not convinced they are the correct items. Thank you.

Ah! Thanks, that is what I thought it looked like. Does yours have the rubber capped vent and support bracket?

I wonder if there was a reason for changing the filter?
My 2002 +8 had the trumpet intake, a very nice shiney stainless steel one, which is now in my collection of original parts replaced. My car was chipped 12 years ago by John McDonald. When he put it on a rolling road the car was only producing 125 BHP, even after chipping it only increased to 130 BHP. Only when he took the air filter off did it give 203 BHP, the chip was not really for BHP increase but to increase the rev range. It was the air filter causing the problem. I now have a K&N type cone filter which has been fine.

Crikey! Thats a big drop in bhp. I will report back, my offer for the ebay item mentioned above has been accepted. When it's blast cleaned painted and fitted I will give a subjective opinion as to whether there is a noticeable difference.

I'd stick with the ITG filter personally.

Had much better flow characteristics than a K&N last time I set one up on the rollers

That’s interesting. One thing I’ve been thing about is replacing the standard filter set up for something like a k&N.

I agree, why would you want to go back to the Trumpet set up its very restrictive. In my 94 +8 I removed the canister cut off the trumpet put a K&N all round cone filter on the airflow meter and reversed the canister to cover the filter. Attached a cold air feed tube to the removed trumpet end and ran the feed to the outside of the engine bay so it supplies forced cold air, improved the performance considerably. Along with Tornado chip and other upgrades, 4 years ago a rolling road test produced 238bhp.

Here are pictures of my air filter set up on the 94 +8:

The first picture shows the air pick up under the wing, second picture the adapted canister which keeps the hot engine air from the filter. Some have said I will get water into the system, having driven over 35,000 miles through some terrible thunderstorms with inches of surface water on the roads, snow, desert sand and dust I have never had any problems.
