Interesting that in the free practice sessions they commented that the resurfaced blacktop was actually smoother (bumps) and less abrasive, & yet in the race there were clearly tyre life issues It makes me giggle that with all the ££millions the teams have they still can't make a mask for the interviews that doesn't need hitching up every ten seconds

I can't bear to watch them with their fashion masks when all I have is a pretty normal one that stays up for hours. I think I must have been watching a different race to all of you as, apart from the last couple of laps and two ill judged accidents, it was just a procession with nobody having any real grunt to overtake and what about my Red cars!!! Poor old Seb, I've said it before, he should retire gracefully never mind about a move to the Pink Mercs. Once again, the over riding power of the "one time" Silver Arrows is just too boring for words and the cars can't be changed until 2022.

I did feel sorry for Perez and the Hulk as well as the pink predators.
Perez suffers from COVID due to having to go home and see his mum who had been in an accident. They hit the panic button and Hulk flies in having had multiple COVID tests. They get him fitted and in the car. Then the power unit borks on the day of the race and he has to stand down/they only have one car in the race. Especially when the factory is right opposite the track, poor devils.

Christian Horner said there were 50+ cuts in Max' front tyre - so they did the right thing to change it.
I think we got a sense of the never-ending midfield battle - it was properly close racing from 5th-11/12th. And nice work by Haas to throw Grosjean long; they had nothing to lose. One more safety car for hime to change, late enough that everyone else changed too, and he might have grabbed a point or two.
Alex Albon still has to learn to pick his battles, and back off out of a pass so that he finishes races; he's clearly got the talent, and the car. It's his first full season, and historically Red Bull will encourage him to race - but in time they'll want to be running a two car team, and he will need to figure out how to run cleanly as well as quickly.
It was good to see McLaren bringing aero parts to test, and leaving them on the car; that suggests they've got good correlation between CFD, wind tunnel and track. The extra power from a Merc engine should see them up behind the top three, instead of leading the midfield. So still 4th! More work to do :-)
& Lando's helmet!
You have to wonder what's going on in the background at Haas though; is the team on the point of pulling out? Both drivers have always raced hard, but now they're over the edge. It's as if there's some real pressure on them. For sure the team needs to change at least one of its drivers next year - maybe Perez coming in with cash will be enough to keep the team afloat until Ferrari can fix their engine in '22
I think we saw the real value of Perez in the way Stroll couldn't keep his car at the front; I suspect that the more experienced driver's setup helps Stroll's race setup. Maybe he gives advice too. I don't doubt the team is a more confident place when it's not relying on Stroll to lead it. (Which is only an observation - he doesn't have the natural talent of say Leclerc, who can shape up to a multiple world champion and lead the team.
Nobody's going to catch Mercedes this year -they were the best part of a second faster than last year. Red Bull about the same, Ferrari are missing .25 seconds worth of donkeys.

I would think that, if Racing Point do sign Seb at the expense of Perez, then he would definatley go to Haas what with Mexico being so close to the USA !!!!!!!!. He would also bring a lot of money in sponsorship with him which would help them no end. As for the Ferrari engine, well what a big disappointment that has turned out to be. Perhaps they really don't like the new way of powering things and would happily go back to the 3 ltr flat 12 of yesteryear.

I would love it to go back to the 3LF12 of before, and a few V8's come to that!

F1 would be more exciting if both Max an Lewis drove Mercedes. And they made tyres that last a whole race with no changes allowed unless to put wets on if it rained. Races won on the track not by clever bods with laptops devising pit stop strategy. It was the usual procession apart from last few laps. I just watched the highlights & skipped some of that.

TimG, I'm glad you said that, I was begining to believe I was watching a different race from all the other chaps. After a life time ( well not yet ) of watching F1 I really do think this particular version is the worst we have had and it continues next year. It is supposed to be the pinacle of motor sport not an enery saving economy run with dodgy tires.

I must admit to having reduced my watching of F1 over recent years. The last lap of the F1 GP was a remarkable display of both skill and luck by Lewis Hamilton. My preference, for many years, has been to watch sports car racing. Anything from Ginetta Juniors to LMP suits me.
However, I can only admire the skill of all involved.
