So my car has an annoying squeak I have traced to rubbing where the base of the grille rests on the body. The protective tape installed by Morgan in this area had long-since worn though before I got the car. Some of the paint has also worn through.

What are other owners using as padding or protective covering in this area? I would love to see some pictures of solutions. Or a description of materials used to fix this problem.

I use a piece of 3 mm thick neoprene of the appropriate shape glued to the body.

I have some 3mm thick rubber matt, trimmed to shape under the front edges of the grill cowl, to act as a pad between the cowl and body. It can be stuck in place with Super Glue. The bonnet Dzus fastener springs get bent inwards and weaken their grip over time. If you use a small screwdiver to carefully bend them back out it will put some more tension on them. This will help stop the bonnet moving about, squeaking and wearing the paint finish. The 3M protective tape is easy to replace as well and will help save the paint finish.

I replaced the clear tape then glued felt to the bottom of the grille shell to allow relatively friction free movement. Though it was better than trying to stop all movement in that area which seems unlikely with the factory arrangement.

Later I split my bonnet down the middle and bolted the grille shell solid, but that's another story.

Good luck on keeping anything glued in there.I have been thinking about bolting in a bit of rubber.

Replaced mine last week with some nice leather from an old belt. Cut to shape and glued with contact adhesive.

Super Glue and rubber usually work well together, almost as good as sticking fingers together .

I have tried some pretty high tech adhesives to no avail.

Has anyone investigated casting rubber around a bolt?

My 2012 version came with a complimentary hole in this area, so when the stuff came off the cowl I put rubber grommets in.

These help keep the cowl off the paint (no 3m tape)

I also glued a shaped piece of chamois leather on the cowel.

Has worked well for several years now

Ha! Good idea, I have the holes as well but never thought of a grommet. Thanks for the tip.
