Loading up ‘stuff’ in the car today (2012 4/4 Sport) and noticed something never seen before on a Morgan. A very well made sheet of Stainless Steel has been bent and fitted over the front of the gearbox leather cover. Guessing about 10” wide and extremely well finished and fitted.
All I can think of is it’s to protect the leather alongside the clutch pedal and/or provide a smoother surface for a shoe side to slide along? There are certainly polished witness marks where a shoe would rub.
Previous owner contacted and he didn’t fit it, the car started it’s life at Williams, anyone know of this modification?

I am sure there was a thread about this in TM some years ago. Ironically I was tidying up my file of 'Useful Morgan Stuff' this week and came across a print out of the template for the design. I have copy if people want it - entitled 'Clutch Foot Rest - 4 wheelers RHD'.

Chaps this isn’t a footrest as it’s a large flat plate that goes from drivers floorboard to passengers floorboard. It’s so effective I never even noticed it driving the car it was only when I got my head down there to load the footlocker.

On the Roadster you need to be able to pull up the leather tunnel cover to access the gear box oil filler/ level plug which is just where that plate is. Nice idea though.

Luckily John its just a ‘sprung’ fit, gear-lever in 2/4 and it slides back and over in seconds. If posting photos was easy on an iPhone I would post a picture, imagine a large [ section in polished stainless BR Colin
