I'm considering buying a 2006 4/4 70th Anniversary model. Has anyone any experience of how water-tight the folding acreen seal and the side screens are? From the photos I've seen, it doesn't look that water-tight around the edges of the screen and where it meets the dashboard/side screen area.

Any specific experiences or observations would be appreciated

Thanks in advance
John

Well John, even the fixed screens can be challenging at times.

Realistically you should expect some leaks, but these can be usually resolved over time.

Somebody with folding screen experience will be along soon.

Hi John, we had a 70th anniversary until last November when we bought a new Plus 4 and we never had that much of a problem and I would say the new Plus 4 may be slightly worse. The 70th anniversary windscreen has got some gaps under the screen at each side but we never found that a problem. They are a lovely car and you will not be disappointed.

Many Thanks DaveW for your observation. I fully understand where you are coming from but would like to differentiate between the occasional drip ..(as in my experience) ...and a cascading waterfall!!! 😆😆

Hi Ian, did you find when driving in heavy rain it caused a massive leakage through the gaps on either side where the bottom of the screen pillar meets the curvature of the cowl/dashboard and at the leading sidescreen edge ?
Glad to hear you really enjoyed the 70th Anniversary. I'm just trying to weigh up my options as I want to be able to use the car in all weathers without having to wear waterproof overtrousers!
My 1985 4/4 always managed to drip on my left leg between crotch and knee, leading to an embarrassing wet patch when I got out of the car🤣🤣🤣

John

I drove through a total torrential down pour in my 97 +4 that had a folding screen on the way back to Bucks up the A303 after joining Frank 4X4 for part of his coastal drive for Help for Heros.
The screen was not the issue & perfectly water tight unlike the sides of the doors etc.
My 94 4x4 also had a folding screen and again no issues in the rain.

Hi John, we didn’t find it a problem coming in under the screen but it looks like it should because of the gap there. We did have it coming in behind the dash and dripping on my legs once in heavy rain but then on another occasion there were no problems, I think this can come in around the wipers. The day we picked our new car up was horrendous rain and going down the M4 there wasn’t much water coming in and the new car was just as bad if not worse so I don’t think you will ever get a dry one except a friend of ours says there's is nice and dry.
I did push a bit of neoprene down in to the gap at the bottom of the screen so that may have helped.

I always add sealant to the wiper boss gaskets. They usually leak.

Out of interest, do the folding screen versions still have a heated screen and if so, does it cause problems with the wires?
