Well spotted @The Austrian

Today's first stop is a little harder; the second should be a snip.

Picture 1: Maybe Volterra
Picture 2 & 3: San Gimignano

Special interest for the last picture: I was there myself but can't remember the city name.

Another strong showing. We would have liked to take in Volterra, but that shot is also of San Gimignano. The towers are the giveaway. About as perfect a hilltop town as it is possible to imagine.

An easy and a difficult one to follow this evening.

We'll just do the easy one as even RedThree could not find anything photogenic at our stop for tonight.

Monte Cassino monastery I think. My Polish father-in-law was badly wounded there before settling in the UK with his family after a spell in Bari.

Quite right. A pilgrimage for me because my father, also Polish but in the RAF, bombed it. The Polish cemetery is at the top of the mountain; the other allied graves are at the bottom. It gave one a new appreciation of the astonishing feat of building it a thousand years ago and of the tough terrain over which the troops had to advance in 1944. It's a climb of several steep miles to get to the top.

Thank you. My wife and I and my parents visited the monastery in 2001 and had a poignant moment overlooking the Polish cemetery. We also visited the allied cemetery at the bottom of the hill. Quite a day and very sobering.

After the bombardment & destruction in WWII the monastery was completely rebuilt.
Worth a visit,

sorry for the poor resolution but those are digital pictures from times before even mobile phones became semi professional cameras

As you have passed Roma, are you heading south to Napoli and the Amalfi coast or maybe even further?
