I am looking for a blank ID plate which should be fitted to the Tool Box carrier under the bonnet. Mine was missing when I purchased the car 5 years ago which is now undergoing restoration. The car is a 1969 4/4 Crossflow two seater.

Does it have an obvious space where it should go? My 1972 doesn't have one and I can't see anywhere where it is missing from. The chassis number has been stamped on the rail behind the front drivers seat.

According to GoMog, it was not until the 1980's that Morgan were forced to comply with recognised conventions for VIN creation and location.

[Linked Image]

Just popped out to look at the VIN plate that is fitted to my Morgan the graphics look pretty much the same as the plate on the link I posted, apart from the missing lower section of the plate, what a shame.

I have a tool tray tag like the link, but nothing with a VIN number on.

Mine ( 1975 4/4 four seater) is the same as the pic above .... vin numbers didn't come in until 1979/80 so at this age they're just a 'repeater' of the chassis number stamped behind the driver seat rather than a vin plate proper.

I did start a thread to try and get examples ofthe different plates over the years but not a lot of takers.

My 1980 +8 has a similar plate to "bilibib". The chassis is also stamped but I can't remember where. I don't have the coolant caution plate.

1980 +8 Blue
And a few others

My car has it's chassis number stamped onto the cross-member behind the drivers seat, so I don't know if the plate fixed to the tool tray is strictly speaking a VIN plate as it is only held on with double sided sticky tape whereas I would expect a VIN plate would be at least riveted in position
