Two curios: in 3500 miles, we did not see a single UK plate outside Calais, and only six sports cars (one on the back of a breakdown truck).
Maybe it's the season? The last sunday of August there were more British cars on the road between Munich, Frankfurt and Cologne (mostly between Frankfurt and Cologne as they might have taken their route via Switzerland) northwards than I had ever seen before, almost more than Dutch cars, maybe because of Covid19 more British people preferred to drive their own car when they were in the south of Europe.
And so it ends, thank God. Congratulatulations on a bunch of correct spots to Rog G, and particularly to The Austrian, who seemed to have recce'd the route before me.
M3W55 (and the fellow posters on this thread). Thank you very much for letting us participate in this fantastic trip and its photo documentation on TM. I read each and every picture and all the comments as well with absolute pleasure and followed your stages with excitement. It was certainly a most wonderful and unforgettable holiday for you. +1. Yes, thank you M3W55 for sharing your grand tour so entertainingly. Really appreciated the architectural content too.

Around 5000 before the first crack emerged. It was solidly welded just before the trip and, perhaps not surprisingly, the terminal crack developed in the Heat Affected Zone. I have experienced this before with a suspension bush. It is to bad that this fantastic trip was marred by the M3W losing such a glaringly noisy part on the road. Did you retrieve the dead tail piece? Your tour certainly is inspiring. Thanks for sharing.

I once lost an expansion chamber off a two stroke Kawasaki Triple thanks to metal fatigue. It cartwheeled down the road, throwing off some impressive sparks, and struck a very glancing blow to a Ford Sierra. The owner was very stroppy about it, insisting that I should pay him for a full re-spray. I gently pointed out that the main damage to his paintwork read “SDP=$HIT” and that it wasn’t my exhaust’s handwriting.
IIRC I ended up giving him £20 and refitting the exhaust with some hose clips from a nearby garage.

I once stuffed the exhaust of a 6-into-1 pipe on a Honda CBX1000 with a couple of Brillo Pads (for those not familiar, they are steel-wool pads impregnated with soap gel for cleaning stubborn pots and pans) to get the exhaust noise down to MoT-friendly levels. And it worked very well too. Riding home the bike was a predictable pain and just wouldn't rev, so foolishly I gave it rather too many beans until it cleared, resulting in the launching of two flaming, smoking surface-to-air missiles directly at the car following, which swerved violently and mounted the kerb. Not big or clever, but at least I could then get away from the inevitable road-rage......

So, Hannes, could you move more freely at Neuschwanstein without all the oversea tourists? Should be on my list of places when I am back in Munich again for business.
