The low or non-alcholic beers / lagers seem OK now (well you know what I mean!) but has anyone found a half decent low or non-alcoholic wine? They just don't seem to exist as yet. My favourite Zero Alcohol beer is Peroni Zero, it is really good. Sadly, a drinkable alcohol free wine is unlikely: not impossible because much research is going on to achieve the objective. Zero alcohol beer is possible because it is possible to brew 2.5% flavoursome, aromatic beer. Removing 2.5% alcohol, without the flavour components is possible with existing technology. It is perfectly possible to remove 2.5% to 3% alcohol from wine, using the same technology, but no one is interested in 10% wine. It is possible to remove all the alcohol, but most of the taste and aroma goes as well: most of the alcohol free wines do this and then blend in grape juice and other flavours to make something drinkable. In my view white wine, served cold, is OK, ish... But red? so far I've not found anything I want to drink the second glass... But I live in hope...

Thank you for the explanation Peter. I will give up searching for the elusive low alcohol red wine and stick to the beer. Haven't tried your favourite yet but will now give it a go.

Honestly, that seems to be fixing a problem that doesn't exist. Pimms & lemonade is a stealth drink; it creeps up on you, rendering you insensible without you even realising it. The idea of a Pimms that just comes straight out and hits you on the head seems to miss the point.

In a similar vein, after the last of my finals, my friends (the same ones involved in the Turbo Pimms) went along to the off licence and bought a bottle of cheap blend Whiskey to celebrate. I asked what mixer we should get. The owner suggested 'soda' - I misheard and thought he said 'cider' and bought a couple of litres of merrydown....... We also had one party with the 80's version of Vodka Red Bull - whiskey and lucosade. I was in a 'sports and social club' called The Blaggards. - we had quite a reputation at the time.....
