I have it on my phone. It treat it is an additional incremental factor for everyday use. Mask+social distancing+sanitising is the combination to give a base level. The App will add to that increasing the effectiveness. My phone is inherited from and the battery is now at 80% (age loss). I have bluetooth off when at home or out walking the dog where people are scarce. Currently being in local lockdown means limited mingling with other people but bluetooth will be activated on going out. A simple case of on when appropriate and off when not. I carry a battery booster to top up if needed (can hold 2-3 charges). Yes, Boris’s Army have proved numpties with decisions (and lack of) but the App will help. My worries are getting a test if needed and the effectiveness and security of track and trace. We are not going out to pubs/restaurants much but if we do then we are very selective on which ones. Went to an Indian to collect a takeaway Sat evening. Restaurant was empty (6.30pm). App activated but no Q scan there. Easy social distancing with a mask on. The biggest loss at the moment is no contact with the grandchildren who are in our lockdown area. Just video calls GRRRR! Back to visits in the garden when the rain stops! They are desperate to see Monty (dog). The App will be on when we do. The App is not the world beater Boris promised with track and trace but will do a job.

I agree with Sospan. It is not going to change the world alone and more can be done with it if they continue to focus on it. There will be a reaction when people do start to go into lockdown as a result of this. It will be noisy but the point is that it will catch more than it gets wrong and the people who are going to ignore it would have ignored it anyway?
I think one of the benefits it will bring is a distinct focus on numbers which should lead to further justification to expand the testing program. It is based on numbers and advisors use numbers a lot!

I booked a home COVID test online on 24th September, it arrived on 25th, delivered by Amazon. I returned it the same day and the result (negative) arrived from a lab in Glasgow on Monday. The test was booked as part of the Kings College Zoe program, not because I had any reason to believe I was unwell. IF the system worked everywhere as well as it did for me then there shouldn't be a problem, but clearly the availability of tests is variable. It does seem that a home test is easier to get, but it isn't an enjoyable experience: taking the throat swab makes you gag and want to throw up and the nasal swab makes your eyes water and is very uncomfortable. Caroline seems to enjoy carrying out the sampling... !

A dangerous thing in our house.... is a retired nurse. Over the years I have been told no need to go to the Dr/hospital/clinic for having stitches out, samples etc. Whenever she had a new gadget guess who was her gunieapig to test it! Most times ok but one blood sample....unforgettable! 05.00am, she had trouble finding a vein in my arm, swopped arms, “there it is!”. Was it hell! She hit a nerve, I jumped, she insisted on carrying on. My arm ached for two weeks. A nasal swab? I’d have to remind her it is nasal fluid she was after not cerebral. She’s a good nurse with everyone else....

So, two weeks in, first cock up (15,841 positives missed and not uploaded to track and trace). Makes me more confident about my decision to 'wait and see' before downloading the app

I haven't downlaoded and can't see me doing so "Use QR codes when scanning into shops / pubs / restaurants"
Don't "shop" - Thats what the internets for Before Covid went to the pub maybe 4 times in the year - and restaurant - once
Don't get me wrong - I leave the house - but if I want a cup of coffee and a biscuit or whatever - I have them at home

As soon as I heard the 15,841 missing bit my cynical mind laughed out loud.
Were they trying to cook the books and lower the number the week before but now need to scare us into being good citizens ?
I am toooo cynical for this.

Apparently they were using a frigging Excel spreadsheet as a component of this supposedly world-beating track and trace system. SMH.
