World class my ass, two weeks in on an an app months late and and this is the second major hiccup.

I blame the advisors, spin doctors, make a buck opportunists, politicians going along with lobby groups for short term glory. Party politics? They are all the same, just different paymasters and ideologists.

I agree 100%.

I think they all need to take long hard look at their roles
The advisors, spin doctors and opportunists are appointed by the government.
The politicians don’t go along for short term glory it’s non exec directorships or full time roles they want
All the roles you identified are leeches.
With all the cock ups and apologies not a single advisor or minister has lost their job, how can this be intelligence led testing if the figures are so wrong?

I spent the last years of my working life persuading small businesses not to use Excel for business critical functions.

My problem here is that, whilst I agree with the sentiment, I do wonder if the public sector bodies that government relies on would be just as disfunctional regardless of the government. Or, can it be attributed to 20+ years of poor political leadership?

Years of underfunding, some very odd contracts being awarded have resulted in disastrous IT projects throughout the public services, in particular the NHS, resulting in poor IT and massive cost over runs.

Exactly the same in the private sector. The big consultancies push a quote that is very low whilst spreading rumours and disinformation about the alternatives. Then wen they get the contract they try to fulfil it with the cheapest possible resources and use every excuse to pile cost in for additional requirements and changes.

From what I hear about the Excel cockup it was a failure of basic data design, they were trying to put data tuples in columns rather than rows, something an A level student would immediately see was stupid.

I spent many years responsible for software requirements and project implementation for my company and know that even with the best of planning and intention something will go wrong. Nobody was without sin; me, software developers, hardware suppliers, project managers et al so the present so called “shambles” has certainly not come as a surprise. To be frank I pity everyone at the pointy end of this lot.

I find myself agreeing with Paul. I don’t think it matters who is in government the result wouldn’t be much different. What it probably confirms is how bad UK plc is in implementing so much.

Listening to the minister for the other side whinging about all the errors to make a point in parliament today meant I wanted to sack him as well as the power. All I could think was who is stripping back the profit the outsourcers are making out of all this farce you donkeys.

As to the failure to sack anyone, it makes no difference, how many of them award MASSIVE contracts and then become paid advisors following leaving office. THAT should be banned. Never mind the so called book of members interests it should be book of paid retirement jobs.
