Evening All,

Apologies for posting yet another tyre topic frown

I need to replace the tyres on my 2015 +4.

I am torn between the Toyo Proxes R888R or the Avon ZV7.

The R888R is used on the clubsport which has the same power output as my car, but i'm a bit concerned about not getting them warm enough in road use to be effective? Although I don't go out in the rain I have been caight out before and from what I read their wet weather behaviour isn't terrible, but isn't great either? I also wonder what the cop will think if they look closely as although they are road legal, the BIB might have a different opinion?

The Avon ZV7 others seem happy with, but I have heard a lot of reports of tyres cracking, some at only a year old?

Any thoughts either way, or other suggestions welcomed!

Current tyres are Yokohama Bluearth 195/60R15

Hope all are well,

Rylan

I use the Toyos and am perfectly happy with them and purchase them from Demon Tweeks at a ridiculously cheap price.
Have no experience of Avons but have used Yokos, pleased with them but I found they do harden fairly quickly compared to others.

Toyo T1R on previous Roadster, was happy with those

Current one's on Avon ZV7, no cracking, dry grip & braking fine, only 1mm wear in 12k miles

I opted for Bridgestone turanza on my 2014 plus 4, quieter and a lot more grip in the wet than the Yokohama originals.

Happy with them on mine (ZV7). Sensible price too.

Recently bought ZV7’s for the Mog and very happy with them.
Also have them on my BMW and wife’s Fiesta. No cracking, quiet and great grip.
Great value too!

Interesting. My initial vision of cracking issues was naturally of side walls. However, having googled the zv7 cracking issues, I was surprised to find that it is not an isolated case as quite a few people have suffered. It seems the cracks appear circumferentially in the depth of the tread so may not be obvious unless it gets a close up inspection.
If I had ZV7 tyres fitted, I would want to give them a regular close-up inspection for peace of mind.

You have to be prepared for 888’s and similar track day tyres.

I’ve run lots of cars with these (though not a Morgan although I am contemplating)

They have some horrid traits that can catch you out, tramlining etc and then the aqua planing

My nipper wrote off an almost new V6 on track biased tyres in the rain. He was lucky not to damage himself

Sorry Rylan, I use the ProxesTR1, nor the R888R, I wouldn't use them on the road personally.
The Avons appear to be a better choice for road use.

I have ZV7’s on my car. Previously I used Yokohama's C Drive. Couldn’t get them in the same profile. I decided on the ZV7’s due to good wet grip and comments from others here. Blackcircles supplied at a good price. Wet grip was a key as that is when you need it most! Very happy so far, good feel, grip and wear so far.
