Is this a recent to you car? I found when I first drove my 4/4 (1974) that second gear was difficult to engage. I found I was putting the gearstick too much to the left. Much better at it now after a few hundred miles but still get it wrong sometimes.

Not relevant to the particular make or model, but just had the Jag Serviced, i asked them to change the Auto-box oil and filter and also the Power steering fluid, what a difference.

Thanks TBM

Can you get the other two gears (3rd/4th) and reverse OK.

If so my suggestion would be that the square headed bolts holding the selector forks to the selector rods have come loose

Simple enough job but it means taking the gearbox cover off

Arwyn
