Today I had a rather small visitor in my garden.
[regulus regulus] German name: Wintergoldhähnchen.
According wikipedia the smallest bird species of Europe.

Any other strange birds here on T.M?

That's a cute little bird, we have a Wren that nests in our garden and they are cute too.

We are also visited by the Long Tailed Tit which I believe is even lighter than the Wren and a very pretty bird.

The Goldfinch is another colourful visitor.

Looks like it was trying to steal your car.
A Reliant Robin perhaps?
If it was it might be a jail bird

As for strange birds on here, have you met my wife?

I think we get them here to. There is a white mulberry tree outside our window and often we see birds that seem no larger than butterflies.

We now live on the coast with a lake nearby. A change of environment from our previous rural house.
Crow...lots in the area, roost in a wooded area nearby, flying in in large numbers akin to starling flocks (murmur?), steal pears from our tree.
Magpies...as with crows.
Shitehawks galore. Idiots feed them instead of the other birds.
The 15acre lake had 60+ swans this summer, now down to 17.
Geese numbers back down from summer numbers.
Cormorants who feed mainly on eels as the carp are too big.
A heron comes in to fish.
Coots, moorhens, mallards.
There is also a tree that seems to be home for sparrows. They make a lot of noise in there!
There are quite a few bats about too as the lake has abundant fly life, clouds of midges on calm evenings.
The nearby pub garden sometimes gets dolly birds innocent or greater plumaged chav birds nono but lockdown has reduced numbers.

Sounds fabulous smile

The word for bird in Italian, ucello, has a slightly more masculine significance innocent

In Italian the 'c' when followed by an 'i' or an 'e' is pronounced like 'ch' in english, by the way.

I have often wondered if the Spanish word for girl, 'chica', is the origin of the colloquial use of 'chick' to refer to a girl in English.

There's an old saying, "Lots of Crows together are Rooks,
A Rook on its own is a Crow".
