Great picture in the last thead Kevin, the closest I have gotten to taking mine out is sitting in it laugh2

Em - got to admit I don't understand why the values suddenly doubled on the GTNs, seemed to coincide with the classic car boom but for some reason the S1 was left behind..call me cinical but often dealers can be behind driving these values and a few make a tidy profit as a result - not saying that is what happened here though or that they aren't worth the money as they are very special cars. Just an odd scenario!

Oddly the last one that came up didn't sell for over a year, so perhaps people don't believe they are worth double the amount when they were only a few k more? Who knows..

cheers

The GTN retail price when new was £72,500. A series 1 at the time new was around £55,500. So 30% more expensive than the standard series 1.

In the January 2004 edition of EVO they got an exclusive first drive in Morgan's Road-Racer as they called it The tag line was: Inspired by the successful Morgan racecar, the GT is a rawer, faster take on the Aero 8. Listed differences according to the article, the 4.6litre Alpina engine (about 44bhp more than the 4.4 standard engine), stiffer suspension, centre lock OZ wheels (like the early S1's) with Yokohama semi-slick tyres, an extended spoiler that spans the scallop between the front wings and a trimmed version of the racer's carbon fibre hardtop. Inside, the traditional Morgan ash framework has been hidden by a blackened and carbonated interior - a detail described as 'Ebonisation' by Morgan. Interestingly, I dont know who made the black steering wheel for the GTN. It is wood, not leather covered but Moto-Lita say they have never made a black wood wheel (as at 2017 when I showed it to them).

Given that it has a different powerplant to any other Aero, it is a proper limited edition compared to the Series 5 GT which was pretty standard apart from the body kit and a partial improvement to the suspension I would expect it to run at a higher price than a standard S1. Of the 2 versions available of the GTN, I prefer the S1 body rather than the S2 body. The narrow cockpit suits the cross-eyed look much better than on the S2.

I

Some interesting information there, would love to see the original article. I always find a shroud of mystery around them as there was talk of different brakes, weight loss and differing spoilers none of which materialised in the end but I think it wasn’t needed with the purity of the design. Also the talk of a single wide S2 body GTN, never seen pics of it tho.

Considering there are only 11 I would have thought they would be worth a lot, but I find it very odd that they went from a few k more to double with seemingly no explanation.

Re the steering wheel if you shine a bright light on the black wooden rim you will see it’s actually not black..but a very dark almost brown colour that you can see the woodgrain through. I figure Morgan just lightly painted a dark wood Mota-Lita wheel, as I to spoke to them and they said they have never done one either.

If it helps my S1 was £60’000 new in 2001.

I ended up buying the car sold as seen no warranty but a 4k difference if I had taken the Gtn which had quite a few marks and very slight damage underneath the front apron, The factory had used the car for press It might even have been the top gear Gtn. I remember Mathew Parking saying if I didn't buy it the car would go back through the factory and would be for sale for substancially more . Newton motors had just been given the Morgan dealershipand they would ship it down there to sell. Em

If only time machines existed..buying the Top Gear GTN from the factory would be one of the things I would go back in time for!

I believe that GTN number 1 is the one with the S2 wide body and number 4 is the Top Gear one. I have a picture of number 1 somewhere from when it was for sale. It had silver wheels which are not my favourite choice.

I took Tarka out for a run, early Sunday morning and the roads were quiet.
On the way back I stopped off to feed her addiction for petrol... not sure where it went, I must have driven the long way round!

I thought this made a nice autumn composition.

Now in her 7th year the paint is still brilliant, despite minimal polishing.

Back home I washed the C Class estate...that was less satisfying... would rather be driving!!

+1. Tarka looking great there Peter.
I greased up the rear springs. I don't think they were ever treated and this is my 3rd go around. Every time the suspension gets better.

The Gtn was parked behind the first building where the petrol pump was when we opened the doors the sills were full of water had a coffee in the works canteen and after a while was ready for a test drive, It had a hard top so before we reached the main road was all misted up. Cocked up a junction on an incline in the town that bloody handbrake and my shaking foot with leather soles slipped off the accellerator. Once out on the open road wow all that torque unfortunately the screen never really cleared as everything was so wet even so that was it well and truly hooked, a week later I took the S1 out top off and the deal was done. Hind sight is a wonderfull thing but clearly I ain't got any, I have loved the Aero but lately I have thought I could live without might be time for a change. Em
