My ARP4 is due for a service and MoT soon. It is now four and a half years old and with around 9,000 miles on the clock.

Apart from oil, filter and plug change as well as a spanner check, are there any other major items which need to be done at this stage?

So I don't get a nasty shock, what sort of bill should I be expecting from a main dealer?

Thanks.

Paul.

The attached is from Revolutions web site.

"Service

We have a huge depth of knowledge in our workshops and a very friendly but professional approach with our clients.

Our workshops are always to be found with cars being restored, prepared for racing, getting MOT’d, being serviced and having accessories fitted.

A busy place well worth a visit as the work we do is fascinating to watch!

All of our technicians working on these specialist vehicles have wonderful skills in their craft and have all had factory training to complement their personal capabilities.

We are not just looking after Morgans, so please feel free to discuss with us any other vehicle you have needing the care and attention we provide.

Whilst it's up in the air I would recommend you have the brake & clutch fluid changed, it absorbs moisture from the air over time & in Mogs often leads to problems with the rear wheel cylinders

It should really be done every 2 yrs, regardless of mileage

I got the best deal from Allon White's and usually they have an offer in January. Worth the trip, a cracking cafe next door (if lockdown permits ).

Personally I am much more concerned about the thoroughness of the service than the cost.

It is easy to compare 2 dealers on their estimated costs for an annual service, but make sure you are comparing like with like. Some dealers are much better than others at diagnosing and fettling the "little" jobs that really don't have to be done immediately but add so much enjoyment to driving the car when they do get included. There are quite a few instances on a trad Morgan (and presumably others) where the "proverbial stitch in time saves nine" I would much rather they were done in time.

Trouble is...how do you really know how thorough they are unless you actually witness the procedure and indeed, you actually know what they should be looking for. I guess, It all comes down to trust but everyone should bear in mind that dealer servicing has to be done at a price acceptable to the customer and produce a reasonable profit.
I am sure there are plenty of good guys out there but those of us who are able to do our own, sleep far better at night!

Agree about the clutch and brake fluid. Might also be an idea to swap out the coolant as its close to 5 years old now. Personally I'd want the gearbox and axle oil changed too - for peace of mind really. ( The oil in my diff at 3.5 years and 8K was pretty dark - advised by Morgan whisperer Cain @ Wolf to do it).

I would expect a service cost to be £500-700 as a guess.

My MOG was this year in August for a service at Brands Hatch Morgans.

The service was (like it looks the usual) 400,-GBP plus changing all fluids plus some small bespoke work.
The bill was than 800GBP incl. VAT.

BHM is wellknown and I travel from Germany in this time to let my MOG service there.

Have a look here: http://www.talkmorgan.com/ubbthreads.php/topics/399192/bhm#Post399192

My Aero S4 Chassis Plus 8 was serviced a couple of weeks back by Williams.
Including the MOT, and repairing the bracket that goes from the front of the bonnet hinge to the front bulkhead, the total bill was £560.44, including VAT.
I consider that to be very, very, reasonable.

I suggested changing the brake fluid, but after testing the fluid in the reservoir and from a front caliper they said it wasn't needed as the moisture level was very low. Interestingly, trads with rear drums do seem to collect moisture and the fluid life is 3 to 4 years.
I also asked about changing the LSD fluid and was advised that as I don't do track work the diff doesn't do much slipping and the fluid should be OK.
The question remains about the ATF: BMW say it is "sealed for life"...yes, really. But a similar 6 speed box made in the same German factory and fitted to a Mercedes requires changing at 100,000km/60,000 miles.

Anyway, the car is running perfectly, a number of creaks and rattles have gone, probably because the front centre of the bonnet is now properly secured.
