Early on in production there was an engine which had the pulley come off and smash through the front cover.
Does anybody remember seeing this? It may have been on a factory visit, it may have been a photo on TM. That's all I remember, but it made a mess. There were a handful with this around 2015/16 where the crankshaft pulley bolt unwound and broke through the cam cover. S&S came out with a modified mounting bolt which cured the problem. I had that happen as well ....... The pulley on the crankshaft unwound forwards and drilled through the timing case cover. I have the smashed cover somewhere as a trophy, but again it failed gracefully , just a chug chug down to dead engine with no internal damage. In spite of these failings you have to give this engine some credit.

Put a clear cover on it and you will be able to witness the carnage.

Waiting for parts from S&S looks to be something where going to have to put up with I'm afraid.
Nippymog do you have stage 2 cams and roller rockers which both add lift?

Mine is a late 2013 with 14k on it.
Stage 2 cams and roller rockers.

These are not the pulleys pictured by nippymog - his problem is with a camshaft pulley. The problem with the crankshaft pulley is the retaining bolt has the wrong hand thread on it and as soon as it loosens the engine rotation causes it to unwind and like a screw jack, it burst the front cover. The offered solution is a screw with a bigger head so that it can be tightened more, together with liberal amounts of glue (loctite) in the hopes that it will not happen again - we hope! Some positive locking device would be more appropriate.

Phil is correct.
I have in the past had the well documented crankshaft pulley failure, where the bolt fixing this pulley tries to leave the engine through the front cover.
The recent new event this thread relates to regards a camshaft pulley which ended up spinning on the end of the camshaft it is supposed to drive, as the key fixing the pulley to camshaft had eaten away at the pulley leaving nothing to drive.

Do they make these camshaft pulleys out of the same type of cheese that they used for the original rear drive sprockets?

Do they make these camshaft pulleys out of the same type of cheese that they used for the original rear drive sprockets? Begining to wonder if I should make a set myself out of something more long lasting, like plastic. Sorry there have been some really good plastics like Perspex, Bakeolite etc. Feeling the bleeding edge here.
