TimB, I am guessing you have found access to the UK vehicle wiring colour codes given you are quoting BS identification numbers.. As for the wiring diagram in Morgan handbooks supplied with the car, well it seems they are to be considered as no more than a rough guide and not an "as fitted" instruction set, certainly not in the case of my mid 80`s +8.

Perhaps for the CVH, it might be worth searching Ford web sites for wiring diagrams relative to the engine requirements of wiring systems, as I doubt that Morgan might alter that too much, if at all..?

Between MMC manufacturing tolerances and modifications perhaps carried out by previous owners, in General I suspect Morgan wiring can be a bit challenging to try to understand, though if you have a particular issue, I suspect you will find folk here keen to help.

TimB, with rare exceptions, Morgans new and old have generally followed the BS wiring codes as available as download here.

The basic range of colours including light green, slate, pink, orange, brown and purple are extended to provide more accuracy to application with a second tracer colour.

Most are abbreviated to single letter + another for tracer if present. Note some colours use the following less obvious letters though.

U: blue
N: brown
K: pink
L.G: light green

Both - the old as well as the AutoSpark loom certainly followed the BS-AU7 completely. The AutoSpark Website documents the BS-AU7 as well. I keep a print-out of this in both my MGB and old Mini and it helped me a couple of times already.

The old loom used a Lucas 7FJ box with 4 fuses. The picture of GoMog and the one my car are the same.

That said - the wiring for the Ford CVH Morgan 4/4 is close to the documented 1984 wiring diagram on GoMog.. The fuses are easily found on the diagram and match the cabling on the fusebox. However, the Starter Motor, Alternator, Ignition cables in the old loom are much closer to the diagram from 1988/1989

The challenge I have is that the AutoSpark replacement loom differs quite a bit. The website said "Morgan 4/4 Main Harness with Ford 1600 CVH Engine - Original specification wiring harness." and "Please note we do not supply fitting instructions for our harnesses, they are like for like replicas for the original.

With a look at the wires for the fusebox it is clear that the Autospark loom is derived from the 1988 diagram (image below)
Based on a conversation here on this forum about the Dim Dip Module 1992 4/4 - Talk Morgan - Morgan Sports Car Discussion Forum, Community and News which is also listed in the 1988 diagram - I am certain that this is NOT in the Autospark loom as there is not combination of Red(R), Blue-Red (UR), Blue-White(UW), Brown(N) and White (W) in the loom that terminates under the dashboard.

If I stick with the Autospark loom - I need a new fusebox. If anyone reading this post here has a 1984 to 1989 Morgan 4/4 and a new fusebox (with 9 fuses?) could you please post a picture or even better as part number for the fusebox (if this is visible on the box)?

The reason I decided to get a new loom is because over the year a number of modifications have been done and a few cables were cut and partially replaced. I now have spent 10+ hours on both the old and new loom. With most of the issues found on the old loom now - I almost close to considering a repair.... I am really unsure how to proceed now.

Tim I also fitted an Autosparks loom 18 months ago, but to my Land Rover. Being a diesel conversion from original petrol engine, I ordered for the latter expecting some redundancy but with voltage regulator wiring correct as mine retained the petrol one. It arrived with some non original additions, reversing light wiring for example, although easily identified as it followed BS colour codes. Some redundant wires were re-purposed and others just taped off.

If Autosparks cannot offer a more appropriate loom then would suggest you work as best with existing Autosparks one. A greater number of fused circuits would be a step in the right direction and a new fuseholder also a benefit. Extra cables for coil ballast could easily be added.
