Any comment on the fact that Morgan is planning on bringing the roadster into the US sans engine and transmission. Engine and transmission will be installed there and the car marketed as the "Malvern Roadster" ??? Sort of like the Caterham, or some of the other kit cars.

My comment: I am happy to have bought a real mog' made in Malvern by MMC's employees.

If it gives enthusiasts the opportunity to own a 'Morgan" Roadster in the States, then I'm really all in favour of this development.

It gives North American owners the chance to own a 'Morgan' and that, imho, isn't a bad thing. If they are happy with the fact the car has been assembled in the USA, they can own a new Malvern; however, if they'd like a British built Morgan, they can search for an MMC built car. Legislation has necessitated this decision but the upside is that the Malvern option gives the customer a choice.

Is it just the engine and transmission that are subject to US legislation - or are the Mogs (sorry - Malverns) also going to be subjected to body modifications too (in the same way MG's had their identity changed to satisfy our US cousins from good old chrome bumpers to ugly rubber ones )?

The list of legislation that kills small volume cars is long and the following is certainly not complete; however, a homologated vehicle will have to comply with: -
Occupant crash safety legislation Pedestrian safety legislation Vehicle emissions legislation Theft Resistance legislation Fuel economy legislation etc, etc, etc

I've spoken with MMC and currently it is a feasibility study, in other words, they are considering options. Whatever happens, it will not be Morgan Motor Company selling or distributing the so-called Malvern Roadster in North America. In typical internet fashion, there is a whisker of truth in the story that has grown in the telling.

The rear crash tests in the US would fail a traditional Morgan with the fuel tank being where it is. So don't know how shipping over a Roadster sans engine and gearbox is going to get round that one.
