The A roads in France are lovely.

Absolutely this. I've always seen driving in France as being an absolute pleasure and a major component of the holiday. Blasting down Autoroutes when you could be touring through picturesque towns and countryside seems such a waste to me.

+1 on the Emovis tag. We have used one for years. If steering clear of Autoroutes, remember the blanket 80kph speed limit on 2 lane roads . Quote - "Since 1st July, a maximum speed limit of 80kph has been in place on all French highways that have no central barrier, and where road signs indicate no other speed limit applies. The new limit is part of a package of 18 measures announced by the government earlier this year to give a fresh impetus to reducing the level of road accident fatalities."
One other problem for Morgan drivers on back roads in France is the pandemic of speed humps in every village!

EMOVIS have used it both in France for years and latterly in Spain, definitely the way to go. I am a map person, but if it's your first time use a sat nav with a pre-planned route and remember to ensure speed cameras turned off for France. Fuel on a sunday if driving away from Autoroutes can be hard to find and it's usually dispensed from an auto pump. If relying on credit card make sure you have a Mastercard, ideally one that doesn't charge transaction fees for foreign currency purchases. Good news, the first and only positive thing I have heard about Brexit is that the French loose access to the UK DVLA database. So no postal fines. I am sure our French friends and expats on Talk Morgan will add comment

For the language barrier we have used the Google Translate App downloaded to our mobiles, works by typing text in, or live speech conversation & you can even point the camera at printed text like a menu (because I didn't pay enough attention in French lessons at school)

Now that the UK is no more part of the EU, careful with the roaming / data if you use Google Maps or other "live" nav system while travelling in France !

If you think we have problems in Morgans , just consider the plight of even lower vehicles. In 2008 we were bundling down the autoroute to Classic Le Mans (organised by the late and much missed Quentin English) and we came alongside a convoy of GT40s (they were the featured marque that year) . The first car would pull up into the parking area , deposit the passenger who would go to the machine and take out tickets for each of the group as they went through. The passenger then had to distribute all the tickets and regain their car. The whole convey set off again at high (no make that VERY high) speed for the next toll booth. This procedure took the 5 or 6 cars quite a time.

As a result although we were cruising at only 85 mph on our +8 , we were easily able to keep pace with them from the first toll booth on the A26 all the way down to Rouen, and they were cursing at some very high speeds indeed.

I didn't know this but the GT40 was so named because it is 40 inches high!

As long as they were dong it hands free.

UK mobile operators have confirmed data and voice allowances continue to be valid in EU, so no issue

I would add a small caveat. While the UK’s four major mobile network operators have all stated that they have no current plans to change their mobile roaming policies as things stand, there is no longer any legal obligation on UK mobile operators to provide surcharge-free roaming, or indeed, on UE operators to provide free roaming in the UK. It is not impossible, for example, that in future customers taking out cheaper mobile packages may find that free roaming is not part of it, but then for most people it's probably not a big deal.

Therefore, as this may be subject to change, those travelling to the EU in the future, or Europeans heading to the UK, may be well advised to check the roaming policies of their mobile operator before they cross the channel, as there is no guarantee that the situation will remain as it is now.
