Slight variation in the question.
Can you still use LED sidelights with Halogen main bulbs? MOT wise I mean.
Or are all LEDs banned in the headlamp cowl? I don't see why not Bob. There is no leglslation for such to my knowledge and its generally of such low luminance compared to main headlamps. Remember also the side light fittings limit the power of LED equivalents. Not halogen, but to give like for like comparison my dedicated E marked LED headlamps on main beam draw 48 watts, the integrated LED sidelight function draws just one watt though. Despite this they offer more chance of me being seen in marginal daylight conditions compared to the joke OE filament bulbs. ETA: post crossed with Andy's confirmation.

Andy thanks for very specific reply on the allowed colour of front sidelights to oblige MOT ruling. Do you have a similar answer for the colour of rear ones?
Apologies if this seems like a daft question as the obvious answer is red but my Roadster ex factory has all sidelights on with ignition. Having fitted clear lens all round with appropriate colour LED's underneath I find the rear sidelights show slightly pink in bright sunlit conditions although in anything other they are definately red and brighter than originals with integral brake lights brighter still and very red under all conditions.

Richard - there is very little on colour of rear position lamps - I'll quote from the manual -
"Rear position lamps must emit a steady red light"
With tongue firmly in cheek - during training and approval of MOT testers we are not checked for colour blindness! Go figure..............

Nor are Bike MOT testers checked for hearing, even though the Bike MOT includes the sound level! As you say, Go figure...

8.1.1. Exhaust noise If possible, you should assess the exhaust noise by revving the engine to approximately half the maximum engine speed. The engine should be warm before you carry out this check.
It is not possible to rev the engine on twist and go type motorcycles.
The exhaust system and silencer should be in such condition, or of such a type, that the noise emitted from the motorcycle is not clearly unreasonably above the level expected from a similar motorcycle with a standard silencer in average condition.

Good to know as I use LED side and tail as my DRL's and standard headlight bulbs. I don't drive at night anyway, so no issue.

Well today I stripped out the LEDs to make the car road legal and fitted a pair of angel eye light bowls as well in the hope that makes me less of a white van man target. The difference in brightness even with nightbreaker H4 bulbs is sadly very clear. Frankly a reduced level of safety. I have put the LED bulbs in the for sale section in case someone would be able to use them. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2021/01/27/20210127_120241.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2021/01/27/20210127_120246.jpg)
