Spotted this on Facebook, a cautionary tale indeed!

Arwyn

Hi all,

I’m looking for some help.
To cut a long story short my dad (who is a pensioner) had a classic Morgan that he had owned since he was a young man. It unfortunately sat in a garage for many years and required some restoration.
My dads poor health meant he wasn’t able to do it himself.
A mechanic who was known to my family through my in laws whom had known him for years and were close friends, had agreed to take on the job and my dad was over the moon.
Fast forward a few years after much pain and angst for my family, the scumbag having taken thousands of pounds off my dad, then refused to give it back, having hidden it and going AWOL refusing to give us the location of it and refusing to answer any calls or texts despite all of our efforts.
After much effort and through family contacts we have managed to track the vehicle down and get it returned.
Unfortunately, we have ended up with a car with missing parts and in a worse state than when we started. Some missing parts are original and some were purchased as upgrades to be fitted but never were.
At a best guess these were parts were stripped and sold.

At this moment to begin with I am looking for a 1600 Ford crossflow engine.
There are other parts but I thought I’d start with the biggest first issue.

Hopefully someone on here can help and knows of one that is available.
Preferably looking for something restored or low millage etc.
If you can assist please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Sorry for the long post and thank you in advance!

All the best!

That is indeed appalling.

The only saving grace is that the car is now back in their hands, and can begin a proper rebuild. An salutary (and no doubt expensive ) lesson.

It's always the most terrible thing when you thought you knew someone well enough to trust them.

This story is so similar to a tale about my brother and a TR6.

He did the same thing, as he thought he had found a good trust worthy mechanic to do similar work as our friend above.
Money was handed over and yes he did a moonlight flit with the car and changed location.
What the little toe-rag never banked on was that we tracked him down. We turned up at the new location and went into the workshop to find him and the car (some what dismantled).
When we put the question to him 'why did you move and why no phone call? his reply was 'well that's how it is and what are you going to do about it?
I don't think that he was expecting my brother to slide him up the wall by his throat. Needless to say that we left the workshop with the car on a trailer and a refund.

This is not such a bad ending as our friend with the Morgan as we got the car and money back, it's just a shame that these people are out there taking advantage of others.I hope all goes well for our friend.

Why is there only one monopolies commission??

Oh my, this is an aweful story and at the same time, a credit to you that you persevered. These skanks need to be exposed, names pictures the lot.
