Thank you for the invitation Boshly, I was beginning to feel you didn’t like me :-)

Now back to the Malvern Roadster.
Morgan did tell their dealers that they were going to do this. Northshore jumped the gun and put the Malvern ad on their web site. When the image of the web site was shown here, Northshore was quickly told to take it down.

Why does Morgan want to bring the car into the country as a “Malvern Roadster” There is of course the desire to get the Morgan Trad back into the US market, but why use a third party, and why the attempt to distance it from the Morgan name?

Most of the current US Morgan dealers certainly have the capability of installing an engine and transmission, most have done full restorations. One dealer, ISIS, even has a manufacturer’s license! Why not use the existing dealerships? Why not call them Morgans?

Does this approach absolve Morgan for any warranty issues with these cars? Is this an attempt to remove Morgan from liability issues in regard to this car and possible crashworthiness issues?

Would this approach degrade the value of existing Morgans in the US, increase the value, or really have no impact??

Presumably it is to get around the crash tests. As you say Lance, many dealers restore cars so if its only a matter of the dealers fitting the drivetrain, I can't see what the fuss is about. Its still a hand build Morgan.

Lance,
I doubt this would devalue existing cars. Whether there would be any increase in value of same I have no idea...

Lance, you keep asking rhetorical questions, which you have previously answered for yourself.

Therefore, rather than a constructive debate, this is starting to smell of trolling and an attempt to be obtuse and discredit the factory.

I'm all for lively debate but I don't see the point in trying to be contentious and argumentative for the sake of it.

I don’t think my posts had rhetorical questions, nor an attempt to discredit the factory.

How is an attempt to examine the issue of why the factory is using a third party, to produce the “Malvern Roadster” in lieu of the many established US Morgan dealers rhetorical, obtuse, or an attempt to discredit the factory? I don’t know the answer, and I am interested in opinions.

Individuals on this forum have indicated that we (US Morgan owners) are only concerned that it will devalue the existing cars, and I have heard that concern here. I already have seen one response (from Graham) that he does not believe it will have a negative impact on the existing cars. If the selling price is going to be (as I have heard) in the $80k range, I would have to agree with Graham, I don’t see a negative impact to the value of the US cars. I am sure others have opinions on this, so I don’t see this as rhetorical

I have stated that Morgan is attempting to distance itself from this venture. Asking why and throwing out a couple of possible reasons is not rhetorical and certainly open to discussion.

As far as contentious and argumentative, I do not believe that was one sided.

At this point, I guess you will determine whether the topics noted above are worthy of discussion on your site or not. As moderators of this site, you have the ownership and power to allow this discussion or to pull the plug on me.

Lance, anyone who has spent time on Talk Morgan knows that is not the way the site is run, nor how I view discussions (unlike other discussion groups, past or present). That said, I do believe you are asking questions to provoke but answering them for yourself in previous posts. That is my opinion, rightly or wrongly and as has been said, I'm sure if we were sitting in comfortable chairs, discussing this in person, it would be a different conversation. The written word does little to allow for subtext and intonation.

I have been watching this thread with some interest and I have a question: Just what would have to be done to the trad Morgan to make it compliant with US regulations?

I am sure if it was easy Morgan would already be doing it.

I can't agree. Ask yourself whether you would pay as much for your car if it was called a "Pickersleigh" and wore Q plates.

Whatever the name it's a Morgan, and if the only way to have a new one was with a Q plate, I would be in the Q.......... grin2
