I ordered the Morgan third brake light stem and light. I went to install it and the stem has a weird thread on it. It is not SAE, Metric, BSF or Whitworth. Does anyone have one of these lights and if so what nut fits the stem. I am beginning to wonder if the poor machining of the stem bled over to poor cutting of the threads?? HELP!!

well a 12mm 1.75 or 1/2" SAE nut fits it. It goes on so far and locks up. So I was told it is a whitworth 1/2" 12. nope. Then a BSF 1/2" 16, nope. I think it is just a faulty part. The BSF goes on and will get the entire nut started then locks up. This is a Morgan part. I will tried the 10 but it won't go on the stem. For what they charge for this, they should've sent the nut with the stem

I've just checked mine and it is indeed a regular M12 1.75 thread and a nut can be easily threaded on - so I suspect that the thread on yours hasn't been cut properly.

M12 is available with 1, 1.25, 1.5 and 1.75 mm pitch. Measuring the pitch over say ten thread peaks with vernier calipers then dividing will tell you the actual pitch on your stalk, if that helps. You can also confirm the thread major diameter which will likely be a tad less than 12mm for M12.

I counted 16 threads per inch. What pitch does that make it ?

16 TPI is a pitch of 0.0625 inches or 1.587 mm

I counted 16 threads per inch. What pitch does that make it ? 16 threads in 25.4mm suggests a thread pitch of 25.4/16 = 1.58 so allowing for error in measurement a 1.5mm pitch
